(Possibly dumb) question about weapon balance
« on: September 11, 2009, 01:26:48 AM »
Just did a quick search for 'ammo explosion' and from what I can tell, they aren't in the beta and not certain for the full release.
If there are no ammo explosions, doesn't that take a major means of balance (and added depth) out of the game? Laser boats risk
shutdown or blowing up from overheating, but gunboats risk... running out of ammo, only to go reload and come back for more?

Yeah, there's CASE, but doesn't that only stop cooked off ammo from chain reacting to adjacent sections and totally coring a mech?
More of a damage control measure, not a 'Get out of Ammo Explosion' free card, right? Correct me if I'm wrong... :D

It always seemed to me that the exploding ammo threat was a good opportunity for ballistic-heavy mechs to ride the line between
damaging opponents and damaging themselves, just like energy-based mechs do. Sort of a game within a game, as well as a good
way to make mechs feel like a complex war machine, not like a guy in a big mech-shaped suit *cough*MW4*cough* On that note,
is there any word about critical hits to weapons/components/electronics?

Just wondering...

I agree with you...however, that may be something for down the road, and not a critical thing now for the devs to worry about.

Well put for future considerations, IMHO.

hmmm I think Wolfsbane comment was fine...he was stating his opinion as designated in his last word abbreviation...we all want the game to come out for beta before refining and putting in cool stuff like that.  I agree it would be really cool but it requires code, balance, numbers, tweaking, testing, code fixes, more balancing, etc. and thats why in our OPINIONS it should be included but perhaps after beta is out

Well I agree totally that crits are a big part of balance for Battletech but I dont know if Crysis is set up to detect the hits like that. Maybe the devs could work something out, idk..

Would totally be cool if they can though..

Even if we never get Ammo explosions, There are numerous ways to balance the game in other ways. Since this a Real Time video game, there are going to be lots of game play differences between MW:LL and CBT. But it will still be fun, after all its giant robots shooting at each other.

Well hopefully there will be ample beta testing for all the balance issues to be worked out! I keep having post-traumatic flashbacks to pop-tart snipers and 1-hit crit laser whores...

P.S.  Since when was the right to idle, baseless speculation revoked? This is an internet forum, right?  :P
