I'm expecting an 'its done when its done reply'
.
Unfortunately that's basically all I have for now
Yet allow me to speculate for you, please consider this: since kicking off the project, we've been trying hard to communicate our progress and share it with the community. First monthly for more than 18 months, then, for the past 10 months we've had daily, then weekly status updates.
We've released
more than 500 (!) screenshots and about
20 videos. The fact that we now say "sorry guys, for the next couple of weeks, we'll not be producing enough eyecandy to keep you entertained", could suggest one of two things:
1.) there is no art department left - no modellers, no animators, no texture and HUD artists...
2.) we are indeed more or less done with the "art part" of the upcoming beta release and what our artists are working on right now is not part of the promotion strategy for that release and therefore will not be featured before its release.
Now, if (1) were the case, you'd already know it - as we'd probably have cancelled the project by now. Replacing even only one of the devs - except for myself who I am not actively involved in actual development - would be a major drawback, if not nearly impossible. Losing one or even several departments - not just 'art' but coders as well of course - could not be compensated at this point in development.
You might be wondering why I'm not simply saying "yes, we're close to release". Well, I can't, and all actual regulars (not just people who signed up 3 years ago and drop in every now and then to vent) will understand why: we do not want or need another "release date debate". If we were able to announce a definite release date by now, we'd be doing it. Until we are, I'm sorry, but 'when it's done' will have to suffice.
However, knowing that the team has arrived at a point in development where a majority of things can actually be considered 'done' should hopefully help ease the pain a bit.
