Here Comes MekTek !
« on: October 25, 2009, 06:26:40 PM »
Here is an excerpt from Jehosephat2K one of the developers of the latest mechwarrior offering over at MekTek.

Begin Excerpt --------------------------------------------------

Jehosephat2k wrote:

Vince will be talking to Jordan and his lawyers on Nov 10th I think it is. If all goes well the game will be released. We are right now finishing up on some significant issues and will have something ready to go when that happens hopefully (we don't expect any problems but, protocol, my friends, protocol).

In the meantime we are preparing a release package. We have a few issues left (bascially online cheats that we know about and are being analyzed and solved). So, in a way, from a dev point of view, it's nice to have some extra time! Either way every effort is being made to get this ready for that time. Also, I have spent alot of time successfully to be able to analyze those mysterious crash dumps that get generated when the game crashes, so that will help us pin down problems and come up with solutions down the road when it needs to be done (and it will) - so posting crash dumps the game gives are now useful!. It's nice not being in the dark about this any more!

So, betas have been working Very Hard helping me find problems and get them fixed. These people are the real work horses here, without them this could not be a top notch product when it gets released. It won't be perfect, nothing ever is, but it will be top notch and we can use MTX to push out updates as they are needed to everyone.

-J

P.S. also the unseens will not be in the initial release (not our decision but other powers that be). However, when we can get it negotiated through the proper channels we will enable them again for your use. I know it sucks but we have to abide by legalities with regards to them, and, now, we are no longer considered legally to be a "mod group" any more apparently and liberties granted to such groups do not apply to us at this time. So we have to be careful and we will be. This is a double edged sword and we recognize that and hope you all do as well.

End Excerpt ---------------------------------------------

Yeah, seems as if the free release won't be this year either.

I am confused, what is this they are meeting lawyers over for?  I guess its over the rights to use the unseen mechs in a free MOD for MW4? Or is it about...

The mechwarrior 4 free deal?
A Previous unannounced mechwarrior MOD with enhancements?
Or the new beta annoucement about the community page with the new online community, patches/updates and online play.

More info on what this is, please?

EDIT: Here is something over at mektek called "MTX."  I haven't been following his but it sounds pretty nifty!

That's about a quarter of the extra stuff being cut out.

it's not even close to quarter. There is 113 different mechs/battle amor/infantry available to be piloted in MW4 Mercenaries MP 3.02b (the current Mektek patch) and only six I think models are being removed.

I mentioned this on Mektek too, I thought it was a joke at first.

They have legal permission to release MW4 Mercs for free.

They CLAIM to have legal permission to use the unseens in their mechpacks.

The MW4 release they're planning is MW4 Mercs, with a program they built that will autoload their mechpacks into it.

Exactly 0% of this should be a 'legal issue'. The only way this could be a problem is if MekTek didn't have permission from HG in the first place to use unseens, or at the very least, nobody was smart enough to get the deal down in writing.

If they didn't use their autoloader, would there be a problem? After all, MP3 is still available for download WITH the unseens, and I can install it into my own copy of Mercs - Releasing Mercs for free affects no part of this whatsoever.

FYI:

AT1 is what they are talking about.

This is MWII with some major enhancements, but keeping the core engine MWII. This appears to be a pretty good sim game, but do not take it from me:

or

Either way looks pretty fun :)

It seems since they are now more or less officially MekTek Developement Inc. they are not considered to be a small little modding group anymore, and thus don't get to play with the Unseen Mechs anymore, because that was allowed to the small little modding group of MekTek

and here is the complete original thread on mektek

So is AT1 a remake of MW2? Or is it just 'kinda MW2' with their own design and missions and such?

I'd love to play MW2 again, but finding a legit copy is an exercise in futility, and finding a non-legit copy is about as difficult. Way to go making 480 different versions of the game.

It's MW2 with new graphics and some other Modifications, as far as i understand it.

AT1:B is a modification of the MW2 engine not a rewamp of entire game at least not in its current state. AT1:B comes with 5 custom made maps (Colmar, Bjarred, Baker3, Tamar, Twycros). The graphics are old school, which should be expected, using 128px X 128px jpg for textures on the 'Mechs. One cool element is the 'Mechs have free moving arms selectable and the hardmounted weapons have their own reticule in the centre which jumps up and down as the 'Mech walks, you can create a Star Lance of your choice of 'Mechs, up to 6 selectable Drop-zones (set up before the Drop), 12 customisable 'Mech´s via MechLab which follows the given restrictions per chassis selected. And a nifty TAG laser. And the Player can select 5 Clans Units or play in a Solaris WII mode!

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to come by and correct some misinformation.

Quote
AT1:B is a modification of the MW2 engine not a rewamp of entire game at least not in its current state.

This is absolutely untrue.

AT1:BT is a game built from the ground up using a custom graphics engine.  Everything is original.  There are no shared resources with any previous MW game (actually maybe some sounds, but those are just place holders until we make our own).  The ICE graphics engine was developed by Sake, the lead developer and founder of AT1:BT.

AT1:BT has never been a mod.

Quote
It's MW2 with new graphics and some other Modifications, as far as i understand it.

AT1:BT has features found through out the MW series and some new and original features.  It is not exactly a MW2 clone, but does strive for more of a MW2-esque look and feel.

Quote
Exactly 0% of this should be a 'legal issue'. The only way this could be a problem is if MekTek didn't have permission from HG in the first place to use unseens, or at the very least, nobody was smart enough to get the deal down in writing.

Our legal permission from HG was for a fan-based project and was never anything very formal or binding.

MP3.1, being an official release, is no longer a fan based project.  Once things settle between HG and S&T, we will look into the possibility of returning the unseens.

AT1:BT is still a fan based project and is not currently affected by any of this.

Quote
That's about a quarter of the extra stuff being cut out.

Someone else already addressed this, but I wanted to reiterate.  There are over 100 new mechs/ba/infantry added with MP3.1, only 6 mechs are being removed.

Thanks Whitefeather for the clarifications. It is no wonder how truth outshines the fog of rumor.
