Blizzard's definition of "Soon"
« on: November 16, 2009, 01:55:20 PM »
I saw this on my old WoW guild forum and it made me think of people who keep asking about the MWLL release date. Enjoy!

Soon
Copyright 2004-2009 Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. All rights reserved. "Soon" does not imply any particular date, time, decade, century, or millennia in the past, present, and certainly not the future. "Soon" shall make no contract or warranty between Blizzard Entertainment and the end user. "Soon" will arrive some day, Blizzard does guarantee that "soon" will be here before the end of time. Maybe. Do not make plans based on "soon" as Blizzard will not be liable for any misuse, use, or even casual glancing at "soon."

Very Soon

Another common term implemented by Blizzard often misleading players into excitement for future content. "Very Soon" is guaranteed to arrive between now and the end of time with a higher chance of arriving on the "now" half of the time table. Although this means closer to now than "soon" there is no guarantee that you will live long enough to see the content finally release.

Now<--------------Very Soon--------Soon--------------->End of Time

Blizzard's Official Definition of Soon

“Information in this press release that involves Blizzard Entertainment’s expectations, plans, intentions or strategies regarding the future are forward-looking statements that are not facts and involve a number of risks and uncertainties. Factors that could cause Blizzard Entertainment’s actual future results to differ materially from those expressed in the forward-looking statements set forth in this release include, but are not limited to, sales levels of Blizzard Entertainment’s titles, shifts in consumer spending trends, the impact of the current macroeconomic environment, the seasonal and cyclical nature of the interactive game market, Blizzard Entertainment’s ability to predict consumer preferences among competing hardware platforms (including next-generation hardware), declines in software pricing, product returns and price protection, product delays, retail acceptance of Blizzard Entertainment’s products, adoption rate and availability of new hardware and related software, industry competition, rapid changes in technology and industry standards, protection of proprietary rights, litigation against Blizzard Entertainment, maintenance of relationships with key personnel, customers, vendors and third-party developers, domestic and international economic, financial and political conditions and policies, foreign exchange rates, integration of recent acquisitions and the identification of suitable future acquisition opportunities, Activision Blizzard’s success in integrating the operations of Activision Publishing and Vivendi Games in a timely manner, or at all, and the combined company’s ability to realize the anticipated benefits and synergies of the transaction to the extent, or in the timeframe, anticipated, and the other factors identified in Activision Blizzard’s most recent annual report on Form 10-K and any subsequent quarterly reports on Form 10-Q. The forward-looking statements in this release are based upon information available to Blizzard Entertainment and Activision Blizzard as of the date of this release, and neither Blizzard Entertainment nor Activision Blizzard assumes any obligation to update any such forward-looking statements. Classic :)

However soon is also linked with quality, for rarely has bliz released anything that had significant issues and/or required rollbacks (mmporg) or patches immediately.

I certainly hope MWLL soon -> quality beta cuz I will gladly wait for "bliz soon" TM :)

I love how they say that soon may occur after your lifetime :D
They could say "Guaranteed best game ever! Will give physical orgasms from the thought of even pre-alpha content! Coming soon!" and still hold true on their "promise" for all you know.
All of my posts are of my personal opinions unless obviously otherwise.

that made my head spin to read that, and that barrel is more like the barrel of my AC 20 so you might want to watch yourself.
With Falcon sight we choose our foes.
On Falcon wings we harry them.
With Falcon claws we smite our foes.
And with Falcon tenacity we win.

Actually it's the symbol of the Rim Worlds Republic: the home of Stefan Amaris [lack of evil smiley]

Question: Why would fish even be IN a barrel? Wouldn't it be: Like shooting fish in a pond?
Raise your quality standards as high as you can live with, avoid wasting your time on routine problems, and always try to work as closely as possible at the boundary of your abilities. Do this, because it is the only way of discovering how that boundary should be moved forward.
