"soon"  one day soon i'll be shooting clanners like fish in a barrel...one day soon  8)

Question: Why would fish even be IN a barrel? Wouldn't it be: Like shooting fish in a pond?

I think the idea is that you have a mass of fish in a small barrel that confines their movement.  If you get enough fish in there you cant miss  :P

Who needs a barrel when you have dynamite? Screw the fun in fishing, I want my damn fish.  :D

PLUS it has been proven that shooting fish in a barrel ISNT easy!

well... with a shotgun i suppose...

Not true :P
It's not the actual bullet that kills the fish, it's the shockwave from the bullet passing through the water.
If it's a typical beer/whiskey barrel, filled with water and a single fish in it, it should die from a 9mm round, without a scratch.
Same principle as dynamite fishing, well mostly ::)

Except for the fact that dynamite was designed to damage with its blast, whereas guns are designed to kill by penetration. Injuries from hydrostatic shock are still debated and that's about the shock the bullet causes by actually penetrating the body at high velocity, not a bullet penetrating surrounding fluids.

This sounds like those rumors that Desert Eagle would kill by shock, even if the wound delievered wasn't fatal. Highly doubtful.
It's more reasonable that those people just fainted by the shock.

Unless you meant the fish would die because of the hole in the barrel afterwards. I can agree to hat :D

I am utterly astounded. O_O
Both, that the Mythbusters did try this and that it theoretically works. (theoritcally as they never tested it on a living fish)

Hittingt it is a whole different story, but the phrase "like shooting fish in a barrel" is probably due to the fish dying from shock no matter if you hit it or not ;)
And about the shock thing, there's a species of shrimp that generate a small shockwave by snapping their claws, which kills smaller fish and stuns bigger ones.
Aptly named Pistol Shrimp
