ActionMap replacement Explained (THIS IS REQUIRED TO PLAY)
« on: December 27, 2009, 01:32:27 AM »
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!

In order to get yourself up to date with the latest key commands to access all the functionality you want, you will have to grab them from the latest XML file provided in the MWLL BETA v.1.0 archive entitled.

1) Beta Testers - after installation, copy the file "example_actionmaps_for_joystick.xml" (EVEN IF YOU DONT USE JOYSTICK)

2) Paste this file to your Crysis profile found in - My Documents\My Games\Crysis\Profiles

3) You will have to paste to both profiles (if you have another one besides the default Crysis)

ensure you do this in both the default and YOUR PROFILE directory
My Documents\My Games\Crysis\Profiles\default\actionmaps.xml
My Documents\My Games\Crysis\Profiles\Criminal\actionmaps.xml

4) Finally delete your old "actionmaps.xml" and rename the copied "example_actionmaps_for_joystick.xml" to "actionmaps.xml"

If we erase that actionmaps.xml file, will it screw up Crysis?

yes it will actually, so you should back them up. Or Crysis will restore the defaults if you delete the actionmaps and start crysis.

I looks like this Mod is useless to anyone but experienced Beta testers with a very high degree of technical expertise.  Guess I will have to wait for the final release.  Maybe another two or three years.

One question -does the actionmaps.xml changes when u play a standard crysis map??

Your existence is not so significant that you need to post your complaint every place it is halfway relevant.  Why don't you try telling us which steps you are having issues with, and the community would, in all likelihood, be more than happy to help you.  If you won't explain what your problem is, please kindly bugger off.

Indeed, he's made 17 posts in less than four hours that all either say the same thing, or are variants on the same whine.

It's a BETA of a FREE game, but you ("you" being everyone who has whined and moaned thus far), sitting there at the center of the universe, just have to have it RIGHT now and it has to 100% work as you expected it, right? Either find the proper thread to voice a properly formatted QUESTION (operative word is "question", not "whine"), stating the precise nature of the difficulty you're have, and then WAIT. BE PATIENT, and as soon as someone who can help comes along, they probably WILL help - assuming that you have not already made a sufficient ass of yourself so as to put the helper off from wanting to talk to you.

IF (and this is a big if) there is not already a thread even vaguely relevant to your question or problem, in that case you may create one. As above, be courteous and thorough, documenting clearly exactly what leads up to the issue at hand. Again, as above, as soon as someone who can answer the question is able to assist you, I am sure that this very large community will do its best to do so. I recommend against acting like a snotty 6 year old, however, as it will not earn you any favors.

Otherwise please keep in mind that this is a BETA, and a free one at that. The devs and and alpha testers have done their level best to ensure that the beta would play as well as possible off the bat; there are bound to be problems, as the testing done thus far has by its very nature been done by a select and limited group of people with a comparatively limited range of hardware and software types. The price you pay for getting to play the game now - bugs, crashes and all - as opposed to two years from now, is that you're helping to test it. If you don't want to test it, then don't, but don't complain here about it. Otherwise be civilized, mature, productive and useful, but stop derailing threads that otherwise may prove useful to someone else.

while i agree with what you are saying to him, im a little confused as to why it wont work and why every time i have asked for help even installing i only get tiny incompletel bits and pieces of information, i mean, a simple "for dummies" step by step tutorial for installation would be great and would eliminate all the fuss, i would have had that already typed up before releasing it myself, but to each his own

Thank you for a reasonable question! The answer is because the devs have been working hard to make the game playable, and have had no vacations or breaks to speak of, and as it was people complained that it didn't release on Christmas day (which would have had the devs ignoring their own family to do what they're now doing today). As it was, that required an incredible amount of effort and this *is* a beta. There was no time to document in advance to this level, and to be honest the alpha testers didn't generally either have these sorts of problems or if they did, were able to sort them out on their own or with only a little assistance. Now we are seeing a whole new range of hardware and software setups trying to load the mod, and are encountering previously unknown errors. During alpha testing, we had entire tests that involved the server crashing as soon as someone fired a weapon, over and over again, until the fix was found (usually but not always) applied that day. Documentation, never previously needed, is now being written up as best and as fast as possible, but to be honest, it was either release with no docs, or delay the mod another week to write some instructions. The devs, I believe, erred on the side of getting the game in the hands of the fans and assumed - rightly - that they'd figure it out.

Part od the problem about incomplete bits of and pieces of information is that it's very possible nobody *has* all the information yet, and this is going to be a learning process for everyone - the devs more than anyone else, what with all the information that will be coming back to them here - so as new problems that had never come up before crop up, it will take time, experimentation, and some plain old trial and error to sort some of them out.

Everyone involved, I'm sure, would rather that everything worked smoothly and everyone was able to play with no problems, but when you have a bunch of volunteers contributing their own precious free time, you have to take what you can get.

For some reason If i do as this says    ( Re: ActionMap replacement Explained (THIS IS REQUIRED TO PLAY) )   the game will  lock up when started. Task Manager says its a directx 10 issue with a dll file. If i do nothing to the action maps files (leave original files in place) the game starts and seams to run. I have not joined a server but  have been able to start my own server and it will let run around and fire my default guns. Not sure what effect this has on  a joystcik but i was able to configure my settings to fire weapons with my joystick.

Ack, I dunno about that, I've done all my testing on a WinXPpro SP3 machine, so I cannot comment about any issues with DX10 :(

so has anybody been testing on a Windows Vista or 7 machine?  and what about on Vista or 7 x64 even?  those are the latest OS'es, but yes it involves DX10 and what not, which is what all recently purchased PC's will run and what most people will upgrade to
