I think it feels even better then the MW game series. Seriously. I notice that I play very differently from the MW games. The HUD and radar is pretty cool (stars represent mechs) and I enjoy placing my mech to best face an enemy... meaning rushing into combat or retreating when the enemy prescence is to great. Hit and run tactics are very possible.
The game just FEELS exactly how I wanted mechwarrior to be. The rolling of the cockpit at you storm forward, the nimble speed of a shadowcat jumpjetting over lava flows and rock outcrops while evading enemy mech pursuit, the sheer orgasmic pleasure of ripping machine guns/AC rounds into the torso of an enemy mech...
BATTLE ARMOR! YES! It is so much fun punching out of your dying mech and continuing the fight on foot. Leap frogging around firing your SRMs, harassing bigger mechs and moving on the bounce. I found being a bushwacker armed with machine guns and LBX definitely helped in shooting those buggers.
The effects of lasers, missles, PPCs, impacts... It is just amazing. I have played some very fine MODs, but this... this is a professional achievement. For beta, it is only going to get better. I can tell they are going to rake in some impressive praise in the coming months.
Complaints? Some. Sound is the known issue. Latency with 50 ping, I still see mechs displacing back and fourth... Aerospace craft are very difficult, flying with a mouse I never really got any kills. I'll need to dig out my joystick.
Overall, dig out your copy of crysis and be prepared for WAR!
