Hosting files and Server Availability + WAY TO GO FULL SERVER!!!
« on: December 27, 2009, 02:31:57 AM »
Hi,

First, congratulations on getting out the beta, its AMAZING and I indeed do have a robot boner :-D

However, I have to be honest and say that getting this game out to the people and preparing for its release has been quite underwhelming, merely a torrent download does not seem to warrant such a grandeur of a game! We need to find more ways to give this out to people! SEED! SEED! SEED!

By the way, WE HAVE A FULL SERVER BEING PLAYED ON RIGHT NOW! WAY TO GO

:D

And this is only the beginning. Once everyone has it who cares how the download started. At least we dont have to take care of a game server farm that comes down ever so often to get patched in 7 hours which then takes 18 hours total :D

People will get over this and then play it just as much.

Cheers for the kudos though! We really enjoy making it and are super happy to finally share it with all of you!

Cheers,
Seraph

In the end the beta is the beta :) so we aren't stressing about having 100's of mirrors or servers even. We'd like full servers with alot of people playing for beta but we aren't ready to do a full release. The beta is open yes, but we aren't a full blown game in the end and aren't using a beta test for marketting but to actually show you what we are doing. If you have to wait for a download then sorry..but that's life, there are tons of sites that will host the files that will legitimize it if that's what you need but in the mean time I won't put too much into spending money on the release because after all there is no money here.

Sorry for the wait but if you really want to try the beta then you'll be patient...and as for lack of servers...well put one up ;) again they cost money and there are TONS of people that have the ability to host a Crysis server.

There's always one.

Lets put it this way, this is just a group of unpaid people putting out a project because they -want- to. Sure, they could try and get it hosted on Fileplanet, but that would probably have delayed release further. They could have set up more servers, blowing their bandwidth for the month (then having the site be down, and NO ONE able to download it) just for your convenience, or, they can start a torrent, and push the beta in a smart way, distributing the bandwidth load across multiple systems.

As to releasing the dedicated server files and client files on the same day... "AH-WAAAAAAAAAHHH!!" sums up your comment perfectly. I didn't see anyone crying when various games came out such as... crysis wars and call of duty 2 launched and they hadn't sent out the "dedicated server" files first.

Yes, I am an asshole, I know this.
It is intentional, though usually not too horribly personal.

I was a bit saddened by the fact that it took them awhile to get the client out as it will take me a long time to get it (was hoping to start downloading it before bed last night), but I don't think a torrent is amateurish. Moddb will probably get the client as soon as they can upload it there and torrents are very professional and cheap way to distribute a file. There is a massive amount of people that want this file so hosting it on their site would probably sink it. At the same time, I'm sure people who can dedicate fat pipes will be sitting on the torrent seeding. The bandwidth doesn't magically disappear.

It's the best way to distribute the file for a free operation when the load will be extremely high.

The ingratitude of some people never ceases to amaze me.

The Devs spent years writing this game, and they'd be within their rights to just keep the game now and play it amongst themselves.

We're damned lucky that they are giving it to us free... by whatever means.

Critiquing their e-distribution prowess (eyeroll) is just ill-mannered.

You have got to be shitting me.

Whining about a release date for a few years and finally getting appeased by the developers with a beta release only to moan about your slow download is not a legitimate argument.

He has a legitimate argument whether or not you like it is your own prerogative. Saying someone can't make a point for a completely unrelated issue is a strawman.

Yay for jumping off the deep end just because someone else isn't kissing the devs feet. God forbid they actually suggest better ways of distributing it or bring up a issue they're having. I suppose you guys should go rail on the ones asking for help installing the mod too because obviously what the devs are making is too good for them if they can't even understand how to install it. Their greatness is so grand it can't be appreciated by the commoner so they should bugger off.

So is bringing up a legitimate argument despite the whining cultist worshiper of the devs.
