By now I'm sure you know that if an enemy ejects from his 'Mech it blows out the cockpit and allows the vehicle to be captured.

What you might not know is that after the first ejection, the ejector seat mechanism is blown and you may find it confusing to get out yourself.

Solution: Use "P" to power down and "F" to disembark from a captured 'Mech.  You will not be able to "hot eject" with just "F" after a cockpit is blown.

Keep Your Eyes Open! Your radar wont tell you everything, BA and many vehicles and mechs come with radar jamming equipment but if one keeps a close eye on the battlefield these sneaky little things can be caught before they cause problems. This is mainly for BAs since their entire armament is basically close-range. Be on the look out for smoke trails that could be the BA's jumpjets and if you spot one PPCs make for great sniping against em. Another hint: if you want to be the sneaky one hit "R" and turn your radar passive, even though you cant see them they cant see you on radar, great for brawler mechs/vehicles.

Battlearmor vs. Battlearmor.

My best advice is to make good use of your jumpjets AND your sprint (shift key).  I sprint almost 100% of the time and sometimes mix it up to throw off a enemy BA fire.

Save some of your jets and instead try to run the jets out of your enemy. When he looks low and comes in for a landing, you then use your jets to get above and shoot your Streak Missiles at where you expect him to land.

Make sure to buy a second weapon. I prefer the manpack PPC. It can one shot a BA unit. Again save your shot with this weapon for when a enemy BA is dropping back the ground and shoot where he will land.

For the standard Laser rifle, try to paint the enemy with your beam to insure some dmg. Keep a steady shot if the target is stationary or slow in moving around.

Cycling between your Main weapon, your second weapon and your streaks is also critical. Keep your rate of fire going!  I find grenades to be almost useless since most players will immediately leap away from a grenade on sight.

Thunderbolt pro tips

Preferred targets

-Small mechs standing still, especially the missile spam types with their radar online. Also note that a full blast from a sulla B easily kills the weaker types in one strike, so when there is a group you can take a lot of them with the possible core overload of the mech you shot (happened to me multiple times).
-Heavy mechs/assault mechs. Slow and bulky so the missiles will hit 90% of the time and by damaging them you also soften them up for other players. Do note however that assault mechs take multiple strikes before they're seriously hurt (unless you manage to catch their backplating hrhrhr).

General tips

-Narc the mech before you shoot because whitout a tag there is almost no guidance.
-Be carefull with lining up for the shot because a ppc or heavy gauss will kill you in one go.
-Watch out for other fighters sneaking behind you.
-Sulla b-s working in a group are realy deadly and make short work of even the heaviest assault mech, so teamwork will pay.
-In general it's smart to only fire on thing moving to/from you or standing still because thunderbolts arn't that agile, even when the target is tagged.
-When you fire the tbolts do the following: go hard to you left or right, hit the ab and fly low away. This way you can avoid a lot of fire.

Additional tip for T-Bolts, if there is an TAG or NARC signal that goes active before your NARC can hit, ABORT your T-Bolt launch.  Firing the T-Bolt will just result in it veering off course.

BA weapons:

1. Laser (default) weapon I initially disliked but found it to be pretty good at taking out other BAs.
2. Auto Cannon 2 weapon I've heard is really good at taking out vehicles when up close and personal.
3. Bear Autocannon is like a chaingun designed for other BAs.
4. Flamer is great at disabling mechs especially on hot maps or later on when people are rocking Awesomes and other mechs.  Really effective for a shutdown.
5. PPC is good at just about everything but hitting targets mid air, but even that's possible.
6. TAG is good for missile boat support.

On that note, since the TAG laser isn't visible there are many maps with rocks, logs or buildings for cover where you can TAG targets effectively for your team.  Like on Sandblasted in the middle there's a whole field of buildings you can hide inside and TAG from.  Even Cliff Faces with rocks and crouching works well.  Just be sure to watch your radar for enemy BA's when you're stationary.  I can't count the number of BA's I've caught stationary by walking up behind them and nailing them with a PPC to the head!

meh i'll throw this one in here coz ppl have trouble with BA on extremity, get a mech with jj's and fight the ba in the air. Since theres no cockpit vibration when floating its easier to aim and hit...the BA are also normally at eye height to which makes it easier as well.

I've only been playing with the awesome mod for a day, but I found that LBX is an excellent BA killer, esp. in a heavier mech.  You don't have to be as accurate with your aiming, as the cluster shot spreads out.  LBX10s and 20s seem to be instagibs, and an LBX5 will often make them runaway if you land even a glancing hit.

# plan your battle ground look for location that suits  your mech availble cover, or solid ground on marsh's to get full speed of your mech, you will lose anywere upto 50% speed in the water.

#Jump Jets and missles are great, pick your target, jump to max height when aiming and fire on red. JUst listen to the sweet sound of damage and c-bills coming in.

# Press R to put your radar to passive which lowers the detection range of your mech great for getting in close.

#strafe runs in a faster mech can be great for a hit and run, torso 45 deg to target and just move right past  as high speed from cover to cover.

  • As a Mech + generic hints:
    • Speed is everything. You stay in place - you ask yourself to die
    • Accuracy is also extremely important - shoot at one location instead of spreading damage all around
    • Speed up to maximum with MASC (hold left shift) and than use JumpJets to make longer jumps
    • Passive radar solves most of problems - like with Long Tom, bombers, missile campers, and so on. People often don't shoot what they cannot see on radar
    • Always know the right moment to go active again - notably when enemy spotted you and started to fire from closer range (<300m)
    • Play various different mechs and try to figure out what are they weak spots, how much the torso can rotate, what's their overheat time. This way you'll be able to overwhelm your enemy without any serious damage to yourself. Example: 4LPL Awesome (this one with blue lasers) always has overheating problems, so MadCat with flamethrower can easily shut it down.
    • Use the 10 kills training - try to achieve 10 kills in a single match with one variant. Do it with each variant of each unit - this way you'll learn A LOT about the game - you have no idea how much.
    • Stay nearby friends - more firepower = less damage to each one of you, while more for enemy. ;)
    • Don't run after escaping mechs if they are faster then you are - this SolarisArena is all about damage, so it's better to hit enemy around you than running after someone escaping.
    • If someone starts to escape - shoot his legs (more damaged one if there is any). This will slow him down. *that's the only case when legging is legit tactic*
    • Don't ignore the tanks. They can inflict more damage than you'd think.
    • Hint for fighting tanks: If he has all 100% health - Shoot in the turret. if he'll try to rotate in order to avoid damage you gonna kill him anyway (though turret has hell of HP so if you can - shoot back armor)
    • Units with ECM systems have the benefit of passive radar without going passive and loosing the radar range. For them going to passive radar does not give any benefit.
    • Don't walk on top of the hills while in passive mode. It's a suicide.
    • Try to memorize your weapons range and use it to maximum. Also brawling (very close range combat, like 100m and less) is not a good idea for many mechs (already-said 4LPL awesome is one of them - same with all LRM-only (best: 800m+) or Gauss-only units (best: 400m+)
    • Smaller the team - more universal mechs you have to take. This way you will be able to fight with whatever enemy takes - no need to relay on teammates so much
    • Repair before your parts get destroyed - not after. ;)
    • Assault mechs are not designed to fight alone
    • Remember about [c] key - it'll cool you down fast (but NOT weapons!)
    • FlameThrowers are ultimate BA killers (also know that they have quite decent range - 100m)
    • Missiles and PPCs shake cockpit - fire them one by one to make impossible for opponent to aim at you well
  • As BA
    • if you want to get to the target fast and your mech has JJs - jump all the way. (but remember to wait for JJs to refuel up to maximum before next jump - otherwise it's inefficient. Also note that it doesn't work well on hight temperature maps)
    • Try to get behind the mech and shoot his back. Each shot in back is worth approx. 3 times more damage than shot in front of enemy mech.
    • Use terrain for your cover. On Inferno you have tons of rocks to hind behind/inside. Enemy won't shoot what he can't hit. Also don't repeat the same attack multiple times. It'll make you very easy target
    • Dont run away with large JumpJets jumps - you'll die in seconds. Not only you overheat yourself but also make very easy target (it's easier to hit the enemy on bright background (sky) than on dark background (ground) ) and the enemy will shoot your back making more damage. When running away use terrain or other mechs as a cover, rotate so that your less-damaged side would face the enemy, run towards friends so that they could kill the pursuit.
  • As an Aerospace
    • Did you know that on Sandblasted you can fly your fighter below these rock-bridges? It's great missile killer if you have any on your tail, also helps in dogfights.
    • Don't drop Fbombs anywhere close to friendly units. They'll be mad.
    • If you fly on low altitude - don't move slowly in one direction - it'll make very easy to hit you.
    • Before you start using Aerospace in combat - learn how to land with Sulla (the light fighter)
  • As a Tank
    • Don't try to engage your enemies alone. Tanks are support units - move nearby mechs and enemy will shoot them instead of you.
    • If you see that enemy have fighter hunting you - go passive ([R]) till you get where enemy units, then go Active again, make bombrun, go passive and run away. This way enemy will have it more difficult to find you.
    • If you want to make low approach on the enemy - try to do it from behind - not only you will hit fragile back armor but also he won't be able to shoot at you
    • Rotate - don't get one side of your tank exposed all the time to opponent, cause it will lead to quick death

  • Remember about [c] key - it'll cool down your core fast (but NOT weapons!)

But since you only have a limited amount of coolant, don't overuse it, or you might not have any left when you really need it.

As it belongs here, I'm re-posting my BA weapons writeup. It's from the Tactical help? topic.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The best two guns for most occasions are the PPC and AC2.

The PPC is a high power long range weapon with splash damage, good against any target. It one shots battle armor and deals good damage to enemy mechs. Only draw back is it's slow reload time. Aim it at enemy battlearmor from above, when you fly over them, for maximum effect.

The AC2 is a fully automatic hand held cannon. It is capable of high damage when fired in full auto, but it's accuracy is low in this mode, so you have to be close to the target. However, if you fire single shots, it is capable of great accuracy. It's best used on mechs, but it will kill battlearmor if you're a good shot.

And don't dismiss the basic laser. It is not preferred, but sometimes it will have to do. It is a short range, but accurate weapon. It's best fired at enemy battlearmor where it's accuracy can be put to good use.

The bear AC is a rapid fire machine gun. It's well suited to taking out enemy BA, but it's not very usefull otherwise. So only bring it if you know you'll be fighting BA a lot.

Sorry I can't say much about the flamer, I don't have experience with it yet.

actionmaps and you!

The installation guide gives the instructions to put the MWLL actionmaps in the common and profile specific folders. This is not necessary.

Best practice is to load Crysis and create a new profile to use for MWLL only.
Close Crysis and go to the appropriate folder (My Documents\My Games\Crysis\Profiles\<username> and save the MWLL actionmaps as instructed. You can leave the common one alone.
When you load Crysis or MWLL make sure to select the appropriate profile prior to playing and the correct actionmaps will be used.

I use the default profile to play Crysis and snooggums to play MWLL. I have not tested changing profiles prior to exiting, but loading eitehr one, changing profiles and then loading has caused no issues.
