Joystick support?
« on: December 27, 2009, 06:23:41 AM »
Hey quick question,

I'm trying to use a joystick to at least control aerial vehicles and it's kinda working. I'm unable to to use the throttle or joystick twist. I tried binding those in the options and it didn't work.
Any ideas?

what kind of joystick are you using?  The only way I've ever found to do it is to map the joystick keys to the keyboard key that controls the button...as far as I know noone has been able to get it to fully work with mechs and tanks

Indeed, I never did manage to get my Logitech 3d working just the way I want it to, though I believe this to be a failing on my part. I think Toth gave me a good suggestion one morning, but I was tired and not being a good tester with a notepad handy, thus I still fail@joystick - there seems to be another setting corresponding to the rate of the Z axis that I was missing.

Decoy, try opening up the actionmaps.xml file, then using the joystick calibrator utility that should be in the same directory (did this ship with the beta? I haven't been home from work yet to check), move your joystick around to see what axis and buttons are mapped as what. Then just find the corresponding entries in the actionmaps file and tweak to your liking.

That's the theory, anyway. Your mileage may vary.

Heh, Decoy, that's the same stick I and many others are using. You need to swap the Z and X axis entries, I think, then find the rate for the Z axis and increase it by a lot.

I had to have mine replaced one when it died, and I know some people don't like them, but I like my little Logitech a lot more than I do my Saitek X50 or w/e it is.

Okay, here is the big question:

How do you set your Mech Turning to be your rudder pedals?

Nevermind, I got my HOTAS Cougar working, programmed, stick, throttle and pedals finally.  There's a config file in the mod directory, Aruins_example_actionmaps and you put that into the documents directory for your profile and rename it to actionmaps

Mr_Blastman, how well do the pedals work in the game? I've been thinking to get them to work with my mech joystick, does it work well in MWLL?

The pedals work great. :)

The only odd thing I have just noticed is the throttle either goes 100% full forward or 100% full back, it isn't incrementally letting me adjust.... not sure why yet.

Sadly with the pathetic state of PC joysticks atm not looking to improve anytime soon, I think out best bet of having sticks to play this with is mapping it for the 360 controller.

Try pressing "K" in game.  This changes it from instant throttle to ramping throttle

By default vehciles have instant throttle.

This does not work

Pressing K in game for me does nothing at all.
