Who ISN'T Getting crashes?
« on: December 28, 2009, 03:35:46 AM »
chrisman01 had a interesting idea, I've got a multi-core processor and I'm getting crashes, but this P4 guy isn't. Can any other Hyperthreaded P4's or other single core processor guys confirm?

Quote from Chrisman:

Loaded the mod on my old P4 3.4 hyperthead 2 gig ram 500 mb 7600GS machine. Game booted right up and game play is real good, no crashing so far, limited server avilablilty
but I am sure that will change. I need to get a new machine but wanted to test the mod out, so far lots of fun, good job guys.

Wait, this might be a clue:  He's using a single core processor and the game hasn't crashed, yet I believe all of us with multi core processors have had crashes...

I don't know if the same is true with this Mod, but I've heard stories of programmers having problems with how multis- and singles- apparently work differently.

I'm still a n00b programmer, though, so don't take my word for it  :-X

In other news, this mod is AWESOME!

I'm running 64-bit Vista Home Premium, with a Q6600 at stock clock (2.4GHz). No crashes, and I played for over an hour without stopping.

What is your quailty setting for Crysis? The more details we can get the better.

For the records, my details:

Windows 7 64Bit Professional
Pentium E5200 OC'd to 3.33Ghz
4GB DDR3 RAM
Nividia 8600GT 256MB

Medium Quailty Settings
Steam-bought Crysis.

I dual boot xp 32 & win 7 64.
With xp the crashes are constant, either to desktop or blue screen reboot. In Win7 64 the crashes are very little compared to xp.
Both have a separate install of crysis, the install on xp is quite old if that has anything to do with it I do not know.

AMD 7750 @ 3100 ;dual core
4 gig ram @ 1066
8800 gt

Rite the thing ive discovered is that atleast i dont crash when the server ping is good, example i crash on US servers with about 150 ping but on the Euro server with 100 or less i dont, it does however have network stability issues but atleast i actually get to use an atlas tere.

my crashing problem is TOTALLY FIXED now
« Reply #8 on: December 28, 2009, 08:46:27 AM »
I was crashing every 5-10 minutes. I tried alot of different things but I would still get bounced to the desktop.

I fixed it by setting the processor affinity for the Crysis process to use just one processor and now NO MORE crashes! I just played for over 2 hours on 2 different servers and no crash!

Now my system is an oldie but it is playing smooth, most everything at low to medium, but playing at 1024x768 res...

Would you (or anyone else) please describe the process of how this is achieved. I have seen this in another thread and would like to test its veracity.

Q9850 Quad 2.83
GTX 285
8 gigs DDR2
settings High

Odd crash now and then ..but out of nearly  15 hours of gaming only 4 crashes.  (one was when i was game killed for sneaking along the Non-combat zone)
Have noticed cores 3 and 4 seem to get used alot more then cores 1-2.
*shrugs*
So is the way of the Beta.

First thing to do is launch Crysis. Then ALT+Tab out of the game but leave it running in the background. Then CTRL+ALT+DEL and run the "Task Manager". Then go to the "Processes" tab, click the box at the bottom left that says "Show processes from all users" (if you don't you may get an "unable to access error". Then right click on the crysis.exe and go to "set Affinity" There you will see your CPUs, typically CPU 0 to CPU 1 or CPU 3 depending if it is duo or quad core. Uncheck all the CPUs except for one... I unchecked all except CPU 0. Then click ok. Close out your windows. Go back to Crysis and exit. Then start Crysis up again.

Worked for me but results may vary depending on the system.

I have only two crashes in about 4 hours of play time using XP. However, I cannot get it to work with Windows 7 Pro 64Bit. Crysis stops running when I try to connect to a server.

Q6600
EP45-UDP3 MB
4GB G Skill DDR2
EVGA 9800GTX+

Running everything on high except shadows, shaders and sound on medium.
