pesky little BA's
« on: December 29, 2009, 03:46:34 AM »
they are very annoying. is there a way to make SRM's lock onto them? it would be nice but it occurs to me that it might be hard due to the game engine mechanics since they are not vehicles.

its really annoying to walk around with 2 of them plinking away at you while you can do nothing to stop them. Oh please don't let them latch on eithar that would be super lame.

muwhahahaha.  (I primarily play BA so I had to get that out of my system)

Actually your response is, to me, more of a continued affirmation of their playability in an environment where there are MUCH larger assets.  If you've read some of the CBT books your description fits them pretty well.  Trust me when I say there has been a fair amount of balancing and tweaking of BA so far and that in order to combat effectively and efficiently them you need smaller caliber weapons or friendly BA.  I like to sit back and pop BA annoying vehicles.  Just be happy a BA can't use their claws to rip open an ammo box and cause an ammo explosion or destroy arm servos like some elementals are fond of in the books. ;D

Balancing combined arms is tough, you need to ensure that all types are playable, this is particularly hard with BA, but this setup makes them fun, and they aren't gunna kill you too fast, but they can still indeed kill you.  They are also a game mechanic that is fairly unique in the way they function when compared to the attempted implementations in other MW games and will take some getting used to being a threat on the battlefield.

So far I have had very good luck with LBXs and Machine Guns vs BA. I also heard RACs and Flamers work wonders too.

They honestly aren't that hard to kill unless you are ill-equipped for the task (4x LRM20 Vulture ect).

haha those BA's are not a problem, I find the easiest way to kill em is to just get something with a pulse laser or two

Personally, I like using BA. The combined arms is a nice change of pace from piloting just mechs. As Cujo said, be thankful they haven't got their full capabilities. Man, would there be some ticked Mech jockeys then!

I had a BA sitting on my Vulture-C windshield today ....and the little bugger was plinking away ....i asked a teammate to remove said BA...but he decided , that a aiming directly at my cockpit window (which ensures i wear the full brunt of his BA removal technique)..was safer for me..then aiming from the side (were he would only splash me and kill the BA)
Needlesy to say ..my TEAMMATE was to slow and after weaking my cockpit..the BA chewed through the last layers and killed me in my chair ..then stole my vulture and procedded to harrase the rest of my tiny group.
Dont alter the BA's ...they may be annoying..but if i wanted a Dumbed down easy aim easy control easy play game...ill go back to warcraft.

lol am i the only one who likes to nail BA players in the face with the dual guass on a demolisher? haha

But ya, the BA really needs their grappling claw, when i am playing BA/man pack PPC i would LOVE to be able to ride a vehicle or mech into the field so i dont have to run my lil ass there haha

PPC's work wonders on BA's, even lagging BA's.  You dont need to hit them, just NEAR them.  Wait till he's out of jump jet, and predict were he will land.  Once he lands, blast the ground at his feet.  Squishy BA!

If your playing in a team game, its ALWAYS a good idea to have a Partisin with your group.  They are great anti-BA, and anti-aircraft.  You cant ignore any single element in this game or you will get hozed.  Thats the great thing about the mod.

Haven't played the beta yet, but I've been reading some reactions on this subject on different forums, and the best that sums it up imo is:
one or two BA's should'nt be an issue, five should be a serious threat, especially if working togheter.

At the moment, I'm amazed at how well-implemented BA's are. While I was able to run into a group of friendly mechs when in the 4xLRM20 Vulture, I was just as able to annihilate the bloody little things with the double RAC5 Demolisher. I don't think there are any issues with weapon effectiveness against BA's (just the lag often making it difficult).

Also, I think I've gotten more kills as a BA than anything else combined. Using C8's and Inferno's to cripple mechs is simply the most entertaining thing in the game for me right now, even if I did manage to miss a throw with an Inferno and gib a friendly BA once. :-\

when i ba, Im looking 4 other ba first bec I know how much of a pain  they can be. c8 n inferno is great fun . Its kinda like in mercs when u had someone kickin ass in a light, Id go get a counter light. THe scale and pace of the action in the ba is the best part of the game no doubt. Its hard to get the immersion with the mechs still bec no js support n learning the Kb commands with the throttle etc . Gna boost up graphics to see if that makes certain things like the ac weaps look better. I am guessing lots of weap effects arent done .
Keep up the work .

Raven C ( with 2 med pusle and ppc) is a good BA hunter. You can nail the BAs with pulse at the top of their jump, or when they land with ppc. They are fast, agile and with their 360 torso twist BAs have a hard time getting an angle on them.

I rarely play anything other then BA (reminds me of Tribes just a lot slower), and I have to say the Varient D (I think) Mad Cat is the best anti BA mech. Reason being is all you need to do is point the nose in the right direction be in range and hit your flamer. It takes almost no aiming skill what so ever. I'm cool with that because the varient against anything else is not all that great so its a trade off.
