There is a nice rangefinder in game but it would be more useful if I knew the maximum range of the weapons I was using :P
Max range is listed next to the weapon's ammo count in the upper right corner of the screen

What someone needs to do is create a nice chart for the beta with max range, min range, reload time, lockon time, damage, heat etc for all the weapons.

Can you please put in logic in the game that will prevent LRM lockons at targets closer than 300m?  When I see newbies try to lockon and fire LRM at targets closer than 300m I want to cry.  They get all excited with their lockon reticule turning red and making that pretty lockon noise, they fire and all the LRM's go over their opponenet's mech.  Minimum ranges should mean you cannot fire weapon so there should no no lockon to keep it consistent.

no, in Battletech Minimum Range means it gets harder to hit, but not impossible.
'any kind of discussion of randomness ALWAYS WILL EQUATE to being able to critically hit a mech's reactor by firing a micro beam laser while facing 80 degrees to the side, shooting the ground, which would cause a random explosion which would randomly crit his entire team's reactors which would randomly cause the server itself to explode which would randomly generate a strange quark which would randomly hit the earth and randomly randomness randomfapp the shit fapp random!'

I tested lrm's vs mechs.  With both mech sitting still I couldn't hit a mech that was closer than 250 meters even though I still got lock on.

if a mech is within 300m and you want to hit them with lrms, don't lock, just point towards them, angle down and fire.

LB-X stands for Lubalin Ballistics, and the number before the X is the number of fragments the slugs breaks into.

No, in Battletech, LB-X stands for Large Bore Extended(range).

well that does kinda make sense too, I used sarna.net's battletech wiki http://www.sarna.net/wiki/LB-X_Autocannon as my source.
And Lubalin Ballistics was the only thing I thought kinda made sense.
Also since extended range is normally abbreviated to ER. And the caliber of the round comes before the X.

Short QUestion...

Isn't the Tbolt System a tripmine deployment system like cluster bomb's?

We always played that way in Mechwarrior RPG/Battletech

The only thing I found about the TBolt:
"Another Mechwarrior 3 expansion/Mechwarrior 4 weapon, the Thunderbolt missile launcher in Mechwarrior 3 comes in a set of sizes like LRMs do; 5, 10, 15 and 20. The difference is that while an LRM rack fires a volley of missiles corresponding to the number on the launcher, the Thunderbolt fires one very large cluster missile that contains the LRMs and sets them off at the target. The main draw here is that the Thunderbolt is not affected by AMS and does more damage than an equivalent pack of LRMs. The bad news? As you might expect, the launchers are heavy, bulky and produce a good amount of heat. Nevertheless, they are powerful; it took four TB-20 missiles (2 double-shots from a pair of launchers) to kill an Atlas when I tried them. Because their effect is more localized, I recommend a targeting computer to allow you to take advantage of the precise, guided nature of the damage. It's much easier to destroy a leg than the center torso, and guidance helps you do that. As with MRMs, the Thunderbolt is less useful in Mechwarrior 4, where there is only one size for the weapon and it is unguided. Fortunately, it still retains a good amount of damage potential, so I would put it in the same classification as the Long Tom for Mechwarrior 4; useful if you know how to use it, rather forgettable otherwise."

Im a little confused about ACs.

So the smaller caliber ones are like super machine guns, and the larger ones are like cannons? And the LBX is like a shotgun right?

How are UACs different besides having a higher ROF?

And is it just me or do PPCs not do as much as previous MW games? I remember in MW4 PPCs did just about everything, and my builds were just a bunch of PPCs and heatsinks.

Right UACs have double the "ROF" (interpreted many different ways in different mech video games) and have all around better stats then AC as they were invented by the clans.

PPC doesn't seem to have the punch that it did in other games. Plus it has a slow travel speed and I find it suffers from the "no damage bug" that the slow MW4 PPC had..which I think is due to its slow travel (lag is not kind to slow travel speed...especially at long range). I think its splash damage is suppose to make up for its lack of punch, but PPC are always described for being useful for punching holes in mechs to allow other splash damage weapons (srms, lbx) to find the hole and cause internal damage.
