Saitek X52 - Anyone got it working?
« on: December 29, 2009, 11:47:29 AM »
What it says on the tin really.

I have a Saitek X52 that someone gave to me when they upgraded. I have never really used it but thought MW:LL was the perfect opportunity.

I have done all the copying actionmaps over from the mod folder to my default and user profiles but still the joystick or throttle wont work in game.

Anyone who has got it working, could you post a nice simple idiots guide to how you did it, I'm sure me and a few others would appreciate it.  ;)

I'm definitely interested too!  The X52 would seem to be a perfect match for this game.

This joystick has a number of issues on many programs it seems; I heard that it has three "buttons" where either of them is always active as if you were constantly holding it. When mapping with this joystick, buttonpress will always default to either of those three because it wont let the others to be checked.

^^^^^ Hmmm... Good point. Though there hasnt been a game I have personally encountered yet where I couldn't get the X52 to work eventually!

The shift states can be configured as described above. But they can also be turned off...I wonder if this would help? I have an x52 but have been to caught up with teh Awsome to actually figure it out for MWll use...

To the op:

I havent done this yet so cant confirm but I would try the following:

The first thing you will need to do before trying to turn off the shift state is to actually install the drivers then profiling software (Readily available on saitek website) for your stick.
Should then just be a case of making a profile that turns off the buttons that have the above issue (I think they mean the shift states) and loading the profile to your stick...Should be recognised as a normal stick then, no?
I will try myself in the next couple of days and post back.

I havent tried to get it configured yet myself.  I have a x45 myself which is basicly the same thing.

I play atlot of X3:TC and with that game, it does have the problem with the buttons being constantly on. A fix for that game is
to put a,  -ignorejoy 9 -ignorejoy 10 -ignorejoy 11 -ignorejoy 12 -ignorejoy 13 -ignorejoy 14, on the command line which lets you
use it perfectly. I dont know if crysis uses those command lines or not, but on x3 that will disable the 2 switches.

That might help someone if there trying to get it setup and has the same problem here.

I apologize I don't have access to my computer to just give you the Profile for the X-52 until the 10th of January.  Use profile editor and do the following...

throttle:
set it to bands
66%-100% set to "W"
0-33% set to "S"

Joystick axis:
Set it to mouse axis (you need to take the whatever else is on the mouse axis off first...I think its turned on on the magic mouse near the bottom)

Rudder:
I forget what exactly was done for this...I think the same set up as throttle except the "A" and "D" key was used

As far as mechs go I don't know that joystick is fully working for them as of this moment...you could try putting the X axis to bands and have that hit the "A" and "D" key while leaving the Y axis on mouse Y and the Z axis rudder on the X axis mouse...I never did test this though.

If that doesn't work then your man to see is Jazz as he knows how to edit the action maps (see his thread about Joystick 101)

If you don't have the drivers/programs for the X-52 installed then you need to get them off Saitek's website

Spyro, don't apologise mate, I would love to grab that profile when you're back. Is it a .dat or .pro (hopefully .pro).

Cheers

I picked up a Saitek Cyborg X today hoping to get some better mech control than a mouse+keyboard offers. It's kind of a mess. I spent a couple hours working on it earlier today before I gave up.

Having played tons of MechWarrior games, I know -what- I want to do with the stick, I just don't know how to tell the game to do it.

Okay I've sort of got it set up now using a Profile to copy keyboard keys to the buttons but it's Blue-screening too frequently to make this worth the effort.

sounds like a personal issue...

fyi my profile only currently works with aero's and VTOLs...I'll do what I can to get it working with mechs when I get back but Jazz will hopefully solve it all before then via XML

So I think it was a lack of free space on my C: drive and the machine was out of virtual memory.

Also, I've removed a lot of that mapping and just gone with the XML file for assigning joybuts. The only thing the Profile does is band the throttle and set the rudder.

Anyway, see the Joystick 101 thread for Saitek config musings: http://www.mechlivinglegends.net/forum/index.php/topic,6189.msg89111.html#msg89111

I used JoyToKey instead of modifiying the actionmap.xml to map my Hotas X52. And it work like a charm except the throttle which behave strangely and is too sensitive.
If someone knows how to reduce throttle sensitiveness tell me :p

I've modified the value on the joystick.cfg on the mwll repository with a lower value but no success.
