(Bug or Feature?) Rearming in the air for Airspace and VTOLS
« on: December 31, 2009, 11:45:20 AM »
I think many pilots already noticed this feature.
Also LRM 15 and 20 take some more time for rearming then others weapon but if you start rearming and then leave rearming zone you will still get rearmed.

IMO it is not serious and for rearming you have to land and shutdown your aircraft first.

What do you think pilots?

With the controls the way they currently are, I could not find it possible to land w/o crashing to rearm. Flying over the runway at low alt is close enough. Been primarily flying Sulla with narc and tbolt combo.

It is not so hard to land just a little practice is needed.
I would rather request to make Tbolts more powerful or possibility to take more Tbolts ammo (currently there is 1 for VTOL and 2 for Sulla) then leave like it is.

I think the number of tbolts on the sulla right now is fine, makes my dive bombing runs more interesting.  8)

Just fly low toward your airfield, shortly before it, throttle down to about 30% and then, gently, touch down.
At first, you'll probably still scrape along the tarmac a bit, take some damage, but unless you're totally shot up it shouldn't be enough to blow you up.
The hard part is getting the plane inside the hangar to repair ::)

Maybe change it to repair on runways?

Actually I'd like for re-arming to be possible only inside the hangar.

As it is, I can take a Sulla out, drop some Tbolts on an unsuspecting Partisan, afterburn it back to base, re-arm in mid-air without any difficulty, drop another two tbolts... rinse and repeat for the desired effect.  All in the space of a few minutes.  It shouldn't be nearly that easy for me to pack so much damage in such a short space of time.  The same applies to any of the bombers, assuming I make it back in one piece.  Aeros can really be abused this way IMHO.

If you consider the amount of ordnance I can deliver in a given space of time depends on distance to target from airstrip, enemy armour just outside our own base don't stand a chance, providing friendly mechs are otherwise engaged.   ::)

I'm thinking this could be a problem in light of other game modes?

Try pulling in just the "nose" of your Shiva and power down for repair.  Then, when you power up, don't apply ANY forward thrust, just hold "A" or "D" until you start to turn on a dime to get out of the hangar.  Also, I am occassionally able to acutally repair on the tarmac (not in the bay).  This is how it is supposed to work but the BETA 1 build seems to have a glitch.

I suppose you could see it like this, but the use of TBolts requires an active NARC or TAG and you will either have to place it yourself or be coordinating with a teammate to do it.

I think you should have to land to reload, and it should take time, somewhat like reloading a Mech's weapons.

I took the 4x FBomb Shiva out yesterday and destroyed two mechs in one payload, then flew back to base and was ready to go again in no time at all. Power like this needs to have its limitations...

And the TBolts don't really require a NARC or TAG. They're basically just rockets without them and you can easily just put them straight into a mechs face with some practice.

And that is very hard to do unless he makes himself an easy target or he doesn't notice you.

I 1-shoted 3 light mechs over the course of one or two minutes on extremity today with the 2x TBolt Sulla. I stand by my opinion.

Apart repair on runways (I hope it will be with shutdown) what is your plan regarding rearming on the fly?
Ok with Bombers they are get close to launch their bombs but with TBolts missile you can rape everything without any harm from the ground units.
I can make a Tbolts raping movie if needed.

aeros are only powerful as long as the enemy ignores them
yes, they're powerful near their own base but so is every mech in the game.  infinite ammo and fast repairs helps them too

if there's an attentive tank driver with a quad laser rig he can 1 shot a sulla from long range easily, i've seen a person get khan just by doing this

additionally if the target on the ground is actually moving they become much harder to hit, by far my favorite targets are snipers on ridges in sandblasted for this very reason.  hitting a light or med mech circle strafing one of my teamates is both very difficult and risks damaging my ally as well.

as is tbolt/fbomb planes spend nearly half the game returning to base/reloading.  requiring landing would increase the time devoted to logistics to 70% easily.
