700 usd package pc that can run mod well???
« on: January 02, 2010, 08:09:34 PM »
Its for family and I cant convince them to put one together .My bro wants it premade via dell or whatever They just need the pc, no peripherals. Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated by two young mech jockeys.

So this is only for the PC and OS, not the monitor, keyboard, MS Office, etc.? For that price no standard PC maker can put together a decent PC for MWLL. This is crysis we're talking about, and the GPU and CPU each cost around 200+.

new egg blows for pre fab pc. dell sucks as well including their full customization. ANyone know a good place, website where you can literally have anything you want built?

go to a local shop, it will be the cheapest - why do you not want to build it yourself?

I got my last PC from here because they looked pretty good. The machine cost me $1140 (got a E6750, 2GB DDR2-800, 8800GTS 320MB, P5N-E, though this was back in early '07) with a 5% discount, and was well built. They have plenty of options and don't charge much of a premium. As a note of caution, however, I really reccomend you know what you're going to buy before buying it, because there are alot of bad combinations that you can buy as well as the good ones.

DONT BUY FROM CYBERPOWER.

If you want to know why, just read thier forums full of posts from unsatisified and disappointed customers.

yeah I came across them myself today and came to the conclusion they suck. it really sucks i cant convince them to let me or the guy who made mine build one. But I really cant find a decent prefab. Its like Id have to replace at least the psu and gpu. Im surprised at new egg. they got alot of parts, but not much prefab. if anyone knows anything lemme know . tnks~S~

Go with iBuyPower, NOT CYBERPOWERPC. I had horrible problems with cyberpowerpc to the point that I RMA'd my computer for a full refund, and then found the exact same spec'd computer with a better case at ibuypower and it worked out of the box.

I would not bet on that PSU fitting in that Dell if that is what you want to do. Dell has a tendency to make everything proprietary including PSUs with an odd shape and size that forces you to use their replacement parts. Be careful.

he does have a point, you might end up having to buy a cheap after market case and put the hardware of the dell computer in it so you can use the gfx card and PSU.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883229159&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL010710&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL010710-_-DesktopPC-_-LC2B-_-83229159

It's an AM3 socket, could upgrade the chip and video card (sell the chip and card it comes with) and you would be sitting pretty well.
