What MW 2 / MW 2 Mercs song goes best with each map
« on: January 03, 2010, 01:13:02 AM »
I'm not sure how the developers feel on this subject so I'll tred lightly.  I like the music that comes with the mod, it is pretty good, however, veterans such as myself who have been around longer than before Kerensky left Terra really have a fondness for the good old days.

Well, I have been tinkering with changing the music around in the files and am curious what other vets on here would pick as a song for each particular map.  (Mods, please stop me now if I shouldn't even be bringing this up).

For Example, on Extremity, I think either Track 7 from MW 2 Mercs goes well with it (Come on, you HAVE to remember the moon map in Merc PPP) OR I really am fond of MW 2 Track 12 (such an eerie yet ghostly tune).

What does everyone else think about this trip down nostalgia lane?

No, that was CCC BLASTER, a totally different guy.  I'm the only Mr. Blastman that ever played on PPP and I was in CSA the whole time. :)  I do remember your name though. :P

When I was playing it was under the name Ian. I was in CCC with Blaster. Good to see some old time folks here :). Wish Commie would show up.

Hehe ya I remember seeing your name, Storm Raven was a cool guy, much better than Black Fox, but I'm not sure if b-fox was before your time or not.

Haha don't worry most of us could care less for having nostalgic liking to the good ol' days it's where half the inspiration comes from anyways  ;D

I've never actually heard MW2's music.  This is mostly because when I played a little bit of it, the game couldn't recognize my sound card and thus I coulldn't actually play with sounds.  I never played it all the way through :P

Damn Korjax, they will never make you a lead Dev until you study up on the original and by far the BEST mechwarrior games in the series!

Back when a vulture was a bloody maddog, and madcat was a friggin timberwolf and the warhammer IIC ruled the galaxy (my galaxy anyway).

Here for god sake start studying up before anyone else finds out! They dont make em like they used to.

Aye, MW2's music was probably the most atmospheric music of any game I've ever played.

I really like that stuff too.  I believe the person most responsible for that soundtrack is Jeehun Hwang, who also did the Heavy Gear music.

I concur - I actually only played MW2 mercs, not the original. But I think that is still my favourite game (music) soundtrack ever. The more atmospheric tracks especially made wandering around the desolate planets cool, and quite lonely. May not suit MWLL so much since you are never lonely in a multiplayer game, and don't have AGES to work between objectives to admire the barren landscapes. Especially since they aren't barren now there are better graphics!

I actually downloaded the soundtrack in mp3 format from somewhere sometime last year. I'll see if I can track them down.

i concur!  MW2 was and still is one of my all time favorite gaming periods.....me and another geek friend of mine had a lan set up at his house, coaxial cable style.....before CAT 5, pc's were in two different rooms, we would drink and play against each other all night long

Sure it felt different but so did my wife after the kids were born. A little loose but it still gets me off every time. -- Suspect

I was only 14 at the time, so no drinking for me (well, we did drink an awful lot of coke...). When we had lans none of my friends would play big robots with me! The nearest we got was Heavy Gear, altho for some reason I never actually played that one, probably too busy playing quake.

Those coax lans were ridiculous. We spent literally about half the time getting the damn thing to work. Definitely worth it.

I was gonna try to reinstall MW2 Mercs recently, but figured there would probably be MANY problems with newer operating systems, especially since I could hardly get it to work on Win95 when that came out. A google search sort of confirmed this. Also, I've found its best not to revisit games from your fond memories, they often turn out to be... well kind of old and crappy!

There's always MekTek's Assault Tech 1: Battletech - http://www.mektek.net/projects/at1/promo/ - if you feel the need for some MW2-like action. It apparently even uses the MW2 soundtrack!

But then MWLL came out and I just did that instead. It's kind of a bummer for the AT1:BT guys that their beta came out at a similar time to MWLL, although it does look pretty good. Does anyone know if AT1:BT has a single player component?
