I threw together a quick list, it's just a bit more than the computer you are looking at but several times better I believe. Some items can be adjusted to bring the price down.

https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?ID=8682569

The basics however are:

i7-920 (socket 1366, which will be upgradable to the 6-core processors - where as the 1156 will not)

6gb 2000mhz ram (I would be shocked if you couldn't get at least 3.2 ghz out of the chip, this will give you plenty of headroom - the price difference between this and 1600 is too small to not go with it)

XFX 5770 1gb (the motherboard has 3x PCIX slots, you could upgrade at a later time if you felt the need)

An e8400 w/ a 5850 would get better framerates than an i7 920 w/ a 5770. Wouldn't it? If you're gonna build a system now, it'd be best to go w/ a newer platform AM3/i7/i5 etc rather than 775. 5850 is a between a 285 and 295 in performance. If they were still $265, it'd be easier to argue to get one over a 5770.  :-\

The 5850 would get a bit better fps, but that system he is looking at is a 4850.. Coupled with the 1156 socket (which has a short lifespan) just isn't a good idea IMHO.

WarHorse - you also should be aware that any store built system is built without headroom. The PSUs are generally maxed out when they come from the factory and the bios is locked up as well (no overclocking). So if you are looking to add a better video card down the line you have to plan on a new power supply as well.

my radeon 4830 more than handles it. My rig is specified in the 385usd thread. I know its cheap , and I know there are other, better, options out there for just a few dollars more, but I am saying that at 1270 x964 or whatever that resolution is, on high, on a 22inch monitor looks pretty damn good with GOOD performance. I have the card slightly.... oc. I lowered everything to near default because of ctd when the mod launched. Will OC it hard and even raise resolution just to test. I have a 550watt psu which was also a factor in buying this card. But like your thread sez, its a pretty cheap solution.

Anyone who has an i7 and only has 2gb of ram needs a good hard slap. Being poor is no excuse either you got an i7. Crysis wont like it either.

When you want to compare i7 cpu and and any other CPU, you goto remember i7 overclock like CRAZY, and will always be higher clocked which helps alot in games like crysis without the need of watercooling.

When it comes down to which graphic card pick any Nvidia 260+ card or the ati equivilant (ATI will be cheaper but Nvidia always works better in my opinon).

And when it comes down to crysis making sure ALL drivers are upto date will help the FPS alot.

Salute Barbaric Soul!

I'm very familiar with your name and am sure I've played MW with you in the past. I am presently using a Dell 20" Monitor at 1024x768x32 on a 64 bit system  playing WW2 Online at Ultra High Res and currently am using a Radion X1900 Graphics Card.

The current system has:

AMD Athlon[tm] 64bit X 2 Dual Core Processor 4800+ 2.41 GHz 1 GB of Ram

This computer was a gift from a friend. It is a few years old and I finally have the cash to purchase a new one, but only just. This computer is fast enough to play WWiionline which is resource hungry and memory intensive.

Do you need any more stats?

Thanks M8!

Salute!

You Troopers Rock! Thanks for all your great input. Shark, I looked at that saved list of yours but it has since disappeared and I was unable to view it. However, I'll take copy of your rundown in your post and take it to the best builders I can find down here in sleepy SW Florida. Ya'll probably guessed that I grew up in the days where all that was in our city were radios....not a TV in sight...anywhere. So I'm not the sharpest on computer technology. I'm still learning of course. I'm gratefull to you fellas for taking the time to help an old warrior out! I'll let you know how it's going or will of course answer any posts. I've got DSA members chomping on the bit to drop into MWLL. I must have a good comp to be at our spear point and show the way.

With my grateful regard,

DSA WarHorse....Out.

Yeah, I've been playing MW4 under this name for about 6-7 years now. If you played MW4, we've probably played together. Also, I've been a admin for MWL for about 5 years now. I'm pretty well known(well atleast known of) among the MW online comunity.

If you plan on staying with the 20" monitor, you won't need anymore graphics power than what the GTS250, 9800GTX, or 4850 gives. If you plan on getting a 22" or bigger monitor that runs 1680*1050 or more in the next year, I'd suggest looking at the GTX200 cards by nvidia or the ATI 5770, 5850, or 5870 cards.

BTW, 2 more gigs of RAM will help you out enough to be worth the price.

If anyone would like to compare some GPUs:

(you can switch interface language from 'polski' to english or other.

That's quite obvious - crysis is GPU intensive game. CPU sleeps for most of the time :P It's bit different however when it comes to cpu intense strategy game which can support i7's 8 cores in HT. ;) (what doesn't really matter now as there are almost no such games, lol)
