Chain Fire / Group Fire
« on: January 04, 2010, 02:25:39 AM »
I have noticed that if you try to use chain fire from any weapons group other then #1 group it doesn't work.

Maybe it is on my end,But have moved the selector to weapons group #2 and will not chain fire.

If that is the case is there any chance you could enable the ability to use chain fire in all the weapons group in the future?

THX. :)

It will chain fire if you move the selector; however, you'll have to press the button for weapon group one for the weapons to be chain fired. Because the group highlighted goes to weapon group one.

How i play this is it just for making it or playing and making it

Interesting.  If you chain fire group 2 (which now becomes group 1)  how then would your fire group 1?:)

Assign your fire current group to a different button and assign you fire group 1 to mouse 1 ;) that's how i chain fire.

Easy enough to do with my custom joystick profile.  Just hadn't thought about using the fire current group key.  Although I usually only chain laser which are always group 1 it is handy to chain those occational mechs that have 2 ppc and lasers.

Thanks

I can't even get group 1 to chain fire.  If I choose the hover tank with 4 MBL and mash the '\' key with all 4 lasers in group 1 with it highlighted, they still group fire whether I use the '1' key or the mouse1.  So what am I missing?   What indication do you have it is switched? Nothing happens.   Have I not assigned something properly?  Is it a keyboard mapping problem?  Because I can type \\\\ and |||?
It's obvious I'm riding the 'short bus' and got my helmet on with this one for some reason, but I could use some help.  I'm missing something and can't figure it out.

the selected Firegroup should get a Background light, which goes up and down in it.
Then Chainfire has been selected.
If that is not the Case, then you have pressed the Wrong Button.

Well, I found the problem.  I work on the road alot, so I bought a gaming notebook.  I can type [,], and \ all I want out of the mod but in MWLL my '[' key won't type.  My ']' key will type [ in game and the '\' key thinks it is a ].  The keymapping was off.  I went into the keyboard and mouse menu and changed the Crysis/MWLL fire mode and when I pressed \ a ] showed up.  So now, in game, when I type the \ it thinks it is a ] and chain fire works as published.  Is this a computer/notebook specific problem or a bug?  Guess I'll report it as one and see what happens.  Should be interesting when I try to map my CH HOTAS when I get home this week, wish me luck!

I haven't been able to get chain fire to work at all either despite successfully toggling it on.  I get the chain fire .wav and the dancing light for the group, but if I hit the group fire button it still fires all weapons in the group at once.

Does chain fire only work with the "fire current group" mapping or something?  I don't think I even have that bound...  mouse1,2,3, and 4 all fire their respective groups.

If that's the case would it be possible to make it toggleable on a per-group basis and then if the particular fire group key is pressed it chain or group fires depending on the toggle?

Will hopefully be possible some time.

I never understood why the selected group becomes group1. Can a dev please explain?
I'd rather have groups fire according to their number regardless of cursor position. And chain/group fire mode should be set for individual groups. e.g. group2 selected, I press \ and only group2 chainfires, even if I switch the cursor back to group1 (which should still groupfire since it wasn't selected when chainfire was activated for 2)

Selected group doesn't become Mouse1 - there's a common misconception among players of the Mechwarrior games that Mouse1 = Group1... But it's actually by default bound to "Fire Selected Group" - there is no button for "Fire group 1"

Well...fix it! It makes no sense to keep it that way and on top of that only confuses the newbs.
The only advantage I see is selecting a group in chain fire mode, then using mouse1 to chainfire and mouse2 (or whatever the selected group is on) to groupfire
