Clan\IS mech
« on: January 04, 2010, 09:15:12 PM »
Hello devs. I have a question.
Do you plan to make different mechs for Clan and IS ? Because at the moment Clan and IS are the same, only BAs different.

To answer your question; yes, there already are different chassis, weapon types, and balance equations for each team. The thing is, we only released Solaris Arena, which gives access to everything for everybody for balance purposes and entertainment value. When we implement future game modes, the differences in each team will be much more discernible.

If you require more information as to which chassis belongs to which empire, please refer to other online sources such as http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Main_Page for more information as to each teams particular chassis, vehicles and weaponry.

May be you didnt understand me clearly=)). I ll try to rephrase. Are you going to add mode or modes, where Clan players control only Clan made mechs, and IS- only IS ones.
Thx and sorry for my bad english=)).

P.S. Your game is like fresh air after years of MW4.

Yes, as I stated, only Solaris Arena is currently included where you have access to everything.

With the inclusion of different game modes in the future, there will be IS and Clan teams where you'll have access to only their specific tech.

Just womdering, IS there a difference between the techs, other then different mechs?
Are IS ERPPC different from Clan ERPPC? I seem to remember someone going into this, but I forgot whether weapon tech is the same or different.

Yes there is and should be a difference. Atleast in every mech game i have played in. Clan tech is usually lighter and in case of their beam weapons have longer ranges ER Large lasers for example when compared to the standard Is large laser are hotter and a longer range and less weight to them. With LRM's there is a massive tonnage difference Clan LRM 20's are 6 tons while IS LRM 20's are 11 tons.
As for IS ER PPC's and clan ER PPC's the clan ER PPC according to the wiki is 10 points of dmg (IS) and 15points of dmg (clan) and 7tons (IS) and 6 tons (clan) and if you get into the critical slots the clan ER PPC takes up less room (2 slots opposed to the IS ER PPC's 3).

Plainly put clan tech is lighter and does more dmg than IS tech and usually has a longer range.

now if there are others more versed in CBT or MWLL want to correct me feel free. Most of what I know comes from the Mechwarrior games series and from talking with other vets the games are less than true to the TRO's.

I remember in MW4 the IS weapons were harder to destroy then the Clan weapons. Sense the IS weapons are more bulky. This rarely mattered in gameplay though. Might be a myth now, sense I haven't played MW4 for awhile.
I found my old mwl sig.

I'm that guy that loved to launch his Shadow Cat into the air, then get shot up into peices, and whatch the wreckage fall from the sky on to your daishi's head. "Death From Above" my favorite from MW4. I also loved to aim my Ejecting Pod at you. SCat Forever!

The Day I command my own clan is the day when SCat's rain from the sky.

Clan Tech should not only be further reaching, harder hitting and more versatile than IS.....

BUT WAY more EXPENSIVE. So for a 40 ton mech your paying as much as for a 60/70 ton IS mech ...or that's what i saw in each and every game I've played till now, with the BT universe as its source. So it might be interesting to see how the complete MWLL looks like in consideration to economics :)

To put it simply, clan tech is better whereas IS tech is cheaper.

The simplest way to battle this out is to have a game mode where everyone starts out with 40k. 8 People on your squad? total of 320k. You can pool/share and do what you'd like, but the end result is a simple choice. You will get clan light/medium vs IS medium/heavy.

Now if you look at it simply in terms of those metrics, it does balance out, IS will have heavier mechs which in many cases have equivalent firepower to more mobile and rangy but lighter armored Clan.

BT cannon would put it as more numerous at the same weight, but since were limited to 16 real folks per side with no NPC bots, the weight is the way it will balance out.

if you take this a step further, and have a fixed XXk starting amount with mixed tech, you will see some folks wanting higher tech and rangy Claner gear, which will naturally force there teammates to be in cheaper ride.

Summery: Have no fear, the devs will balance this out according to coin = BV or some such metric.

(PS. if you want to know what BV is, go to http://www.sarna.net/wiki/BV)

Yeah i enjoy the balance of clan tech being better but IS being cheaper, you may not hit more but you'll constantly be able to afford that atlas where their assault mechs are diamonds.

As far as i know about CL vs IS its this way:
CL has lighter weapons, that take up less critical space as equivalent IS tech, but are A LOT more expensive and take more heatsinks.
IS Weapons are heavier, they have shorter range and take up more critical space, but are A LOT cheaper and cooler.
Damage is the same or maybe CL has slightly stronger weapons.
..., but this is battletech, and sense is often not made.

I'm sure ALL of us know the differences in the canon, no need to recite them.  What he was asking is if there was a difference in game - something I don't have the answer to.  Some weapons seem identical in terms of range and power between the IS and Clan right now; i.e. a Large Pulse Laser is a Large Pulse Laser, despite the fact there is a massive difference between Clan and IS versions in the tabletop game and even previous MechWarriors.

Well if you consider there isn't even an option to play as -proper- IS v Clan yet (and not all the mechs are in) they don't really need all the differences to be there at this point. This is probably just one of the lesser priority things that didn't make Beta 1.
