Any physical damage for mech "Death From Above" attacks ??
« on: January 08, 2010, 03:50:28 AM »
Last night through skill (*/cough/* more like luck) I pulled off a successful Death from Above jump jet attack with my Shadow Cat on a Madcat MKII.   ;D

There did not seem to be any damage to either mech though, and for a few seconds I actually stayed on the other players mech (wish I could have captured a screen shot).

Death from Above - for those who don't know - is an element of the Battletech game where a jump jet capable mech lands on top of a mech.  If successful, there is upper torso/head type damage to the mech being landed on...and the jumping mech receives damage to the legs.

Is this aspect in the game?  Do physical contact moves of any kind damage opponents?  50 tons falling on your head has to hurt a little right?

Thanks,
Wraith2626

Given the extent of the issues with collision detection (see the maps thread for some discussion about it) I doubt that DFA will work properly until those issues are addressed. The only thing I am fairly certain about is when air units collide, the collider (that is, the one with more speed at the time of contact) will suffer the suicide penalty, and the collidee (that is, the guy getting hit) usually gets the kill creditation. This may be a bug, but I think it does a great job of inhibiting "ramming" as many air units in multiplayer games ala Battlefield will witness.
I want more heavy gauss in my life.

Pictures from early playtest, titled "Awesome goes into battle with a little extra firepower".  New super weapon...a 45 ton external.  I was the Scat, Sturmadler the Awesome...discovered this quite by accident.

I have no idea what's going on with DFA's right now.  This is just posted for your screenshot enjoyment.

I wonder how many can be stacked up?  Can you imagine a 3 ERPPC Awesome with two Shadowcats both with ERPPC and AC20 with the two shadwocats having their radar set to passive coming at you.  It would be something like having your Madcat primary walking over a hill, seeing the sight before you (a walking totem of death standing before you) and then you and your mech turn in to pink mist.  Poof, you are simply gone.

How about two Madcat MKII 4 AC20s stacked up?   :o

It would go well with what I saw on the Marshes map last night.  In the middle of a huge mech brawl, about 8 heavy or better mechs per side.  One side was wiped out.  A late vulture came up after all his teammates were dead.  Everyone unloaded on him about the same time.
First shot the vulture simply and literally flew backwards head over heals doing a several flips before coming to rest and its reactor blowing.

A catapult sat on my bushy today  ;D

Fortunately, the collision detection was bad enough that all we did was 'overlap' and probably look a wee bit intimate to any observers on the scene.  :P
