Graphic settings
« on: January 09, 2010, 07:41:47 PM »
Guys I have:

ATI Radeon HD 4670 (1GB, DDR3)
Relatek AC 97 Audio
2 GB DDR2 Ram
Intel Pentium D CPU 2.80 GHz (2 Cpus)
160 Gb hard drive (33,2 Free)
Windows XP Black (Windows XP pro, with shiny theme, Vista sidebar and apple like quick lunch bar, all can be closed)

Crysis automatically sets my graphic settings to low, but I don't believe it since I have a better graphic card than my friend and he plays Crysis on high setting with NO problems. I need to know how high can I set  each of graphic settings (texture, physics, etc.)
I have added a screen shot of graphic settings menu and my dxdiag so pls can any1 tell me.
..., but this is battletech, and sense is often not made.

I run my 8800 on low details, but others run the same card on high. Everyone likes it different. So don't ask, just try it. Set it to high and if you don't like the performance, drop some settings. Repeat if necessary.

I'll just tell you, that texture quality has little impact on performance, so it's best to have it high. On the other hand, shaders and post processing impact performance the most, so cut those first, if you don't like your results.

Lowering shaders from high to medium allowed me to put everything else on high. There are a few crysis tweak guides out there if you hunt around.

true you have to test your settings and see how happy you get with your performances, remember this tho:

Your card has a transfer of 128 bit while many other (also the old 8800) they have a data bus of 256 which is a sort of bottleneck to your performances

Although your card woudl have the ability to perform well, that 128 databus choke it a lil bit.

Heres a nice Crysis Tweak Guide, with example pictures:

Thx, I will try it all

EDIT: Tried, everything works on high, except shreder (or whatever) are set on low. I's still getting the same lag as be4, just my graphics are better .

hey guys,I'm thinking of buying a new processor: Intel core 2 duo E8400 3.0 GHz, but I cant keep wondering are 0.2 GHz really THAT better or am i trying 2 throw away my money. Thanks, if I buy it, it will probably fix that missile lag bug I'm having :P

You might have a slight improvement with a new processor, considering stepping from pentium D to Core2duo, but honestly i would spend that money on a better videocard first !

did you try forcing dx9 yet?  Lot of people have said that they had a decent boast with that.

I don't think I need a new video card, but you need 2 read the whole post

How do I do that.

make a shortcut to your crysis exe.
example:  "C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis\Bin32\Crysis.exe" -mod mwll -dx9

the -mod mwll  loads the mod
-dx9 foces dx9 mode

of course make the shortcut reflect where you installed the game and if you want the 32 or 64 bit version.

Hate to burst your bubble but your video card really isn't super good. Having 1GB of video memory does not make a card great, and GDDR3 is only half as fast as GDDR5. Furthermore the GPU on the 4670 is a kinda weak. It's entirely possible that your friend is running a 512MB card that's still quite a bit faster than what you have.

Even so, your video card is actually the best part of your system. I think you need to upgrade the rest of your system and then you might be able to manage a nice experience on Medium settings or a slightly choppy experience on High.

Crysis is notoriously demanding and your system is old and slow. You'll be stuck with low/medium settings until you upgrade. Tweaks can only go so far.

What ever you do do not compare the clockspeed of these processors. The Core 2 Duo can do a lot more at the same clock speed as you Pentium D. You won't be throwing your money away at all. You will see a huge improvement in situations where your processor will bottleneck you (which I would suspect whats happening when your playing MWLL). Remember you may have to replace your motherborad if it doesn't support the Core 2 Duo.
Also your video card memory doesn't matter as much as the GPU itself. Any company can slap 1 gig of memory with a garbage video processor.

Not with the 4670 IIRC. The bandwidth is sufficient for its capabilities.
Kaldskryke is right. I would go with a CPU upgrade followed by maybe an upgrade to memory and a 64-bit OS.
What resolution are you playing at?

I would get a cheapish quad core over a duel and OC it upto 3ghz+. If you don't want to OC (For whatever reason) I would get the 3ghz duel core if you can't afford a faster one.

Your also going to need more RAM, another 1gb at least, isn't so important but if you got money spare, and lets face it DDR2 ram is cheap as hell, I would buy some.

Your GC is a bit weak, but it's alot more likly the CPU to be the reason your graphic settings are stuck on low. But since your CPU is the oldest thing I would replace it first anyway.

The E8400 is a great processor. The real beauty with the E8400 is that it can be OCed to 3.6ghz while running stable, and is a common practice of those that own the processor. As recommended though, a cheap quad core will still be better then the E8400.
