How does splash damage work

When a weapon does splash damage and you get a direct centre torso hit does that mean it splashes all adjacent areas (LT, RT, head) or does it only splash one area?

Im rather sure it hits all ajacent areas too if the splash-radius is big enough... atleast thats what c8 does.

hits the surrounding armor.

a direct hit with 2 tbolts won't kill a catapult but it will reduce its whole upper torso and arms to the orange level
