2 Seater Mech Dreadnought
« on: January 10, 2010, 11:31:44 PM »
G Day All,

I know theres heaps of mechs to choose from all ready :)

What about a couple of 2 seater models?

Have a pilot and a gunner with the pilot operating movement and use of a tag laser and the gunner operating all weapons.

Also have it incredible expensive like 180,000c so it takes two players to put there funds together to purchase one and it can only operate with 2 people.

Elaborating with Masa's response, due to licenses and evil legal crap the Dev team is not allowed to put anything in that is not already present in the Battletech/Mechwarrior universe. The only 'Mech that I can think of with multiple pilots with separated roles of gunning and movement is the Ares from Dark Ages (which some of us don't even consider canon). Not only this but I'm sure it would be a big use of manpower to get it working properly which could be used on more tried and true game features, especially since this 'Mech is a Tripedal.

Mechs can have Dual Cockpits (http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Dual_Cockpit and http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Command_Console), I just don't know how the hell they would translate to MWLL or if they would even be worth it.

Dual Cockpit:

    * A Piloting Skill roll to avoid falling is required only after suffering 30 points of damage in a round (instead of 20);
    * Improved evasion capability grants better movement modifiers to hit a unit equipped with Dual Cockpit;
    * Similarly, modifiers to own fire from own movement are less severe and a secondary target may be fired at with no penalty.

Command Console:

"In game terms, the Command Console occupies the free critical slot (#4) it the head section. Since it is a fully functional cockpit unto itself, it can take over if the     regular cockpit (#3) is destroyed or the pilot is incapacitated, provided of course that the Command Console is manned; in that case both cockpits must be destroyed to incapacitate the 'Mech. "

"If the secondary MechWarrior is not piloting the 'Mech he can make use of the command and control functions of the Command Console to add +2 to his side's initiative. This is not cumulative with other Command Consoles or mobile HQs, but it is with the initiative bonus from an enhanced satellite uplink communication system (if available) and no penalties apply for the latter system while the Console operator is not operating the 'Mech himself."

so what, one person drives, the other controls torso twist and firing the weapons, ala Mechwarrior for the SNES? And if it goes down, the enemy gets 2 kills? I'd go for that.
Raise your quality standards as high as you can live with, avoid wasting your time on routine problems, and always try to work as closely as possible at the boundary of your abilities. Do this, because it is the only way of discovering how that boundary should be moved forward.

I must have misread, the pages I read with dual cockpits mentioned were not piloting and gunning but piloting and force commander type setup for a command 'mech.

I wouldn't mind a Torso-Mounted cockpit option on some mechs. Always found it hilarious in MegaMek.

Opponent: "BOOM! HEAD-SHOT! fapp yeah! Your 100ton Mech is down in one Gauss shot!"

*A few moments later*

"wtf, why is it still walking!?!?!"

"HOW DID IT JUST PUNCH ME IN THE FACE!?!?!?!"

I only ever win MegaMek if I use unorthodox strategies.

I may be wrong on this so don't quote me but i believe i read somewhere the battlemaster was also able to be used as a dual cockpit command mech. I wouldn't like to see dual cockpit for firing just as command maybe as a special attack-defend game mode, have options like:

Attacking team:
-Control over c-bills for the team....c-bills your team scores goes into the team bank.
-Maybe some kind of UAV type setup like BF2 that can't detect passive/ecm.
-Very slow recharging ammo drops, to use you must shut down in field next to crate, if crate is shot it explodes multiple times damaging anything near it.
-Slow recharging space bombardment(artillery).

Defending team:
-Control over c-bills for the team....team can't score c-bills,instead they are steadily accrued over time.
-buyable turrets to be placed at commanders discretion.
-buyable mech bays(starts off with 1,all mechs spawn at start but after death go into queue for mech bay spawn).
-buyable wall sections
-repair turret ability

This would be a fair bit of coding and i'm not sure if the engine likes having solid objects pop into existance(like the turrets and walls).

The chin-gun style Mad Dog allowed the second guy to man the guns.

However, most if not all other dual cockpits generally delegate most of the responsibility to just one guy. The other is there for moral support or something, I don't know.

That is what I was thinking of.

In one of the Battletech books I've read, not sure which though, the commander is some gal in a dual-cockpit Anvil. She focused on leading and combat while the second pilot worried with com systems and coordination.
I had a dream, a dream of a white Victor. It strode over the tundra like a god of old. And then it spoke...and I freaked out.

What about a couple of 2 seater models?

Not canon = "no".

Ares is actually a 3 seater  ;D
There isn't any canon Battletech rules for it however, only Mechwarrior CMG.

There have been Battletech rules for dual cockpit and command console mechs though, but they are rarely used.

Rules for dual cockpits allow for one mech to pilot and the other to be the gunner. Command console allows a second guy to ride along to provide command assistance. Alternatively, the second seater can be the commander.
