Water Physics in Far Cry
« on: September 10, 2007, 06:57:45 PM »
Well, if it can be done in Far Cry, I am assuming it can be done in SB 2.

Check it out!

I'm a little skeptical about this video. It looks to me that the water effects are 2D sprites which clips through the terrain and it is just scripted to spawn inside the terrain, also seems to be scripted to have the boxes and tower fall at the same time and same direction every time the water "falls". I can reproduce this scripted scene with sprites and matinees being performed on the objects. Yes this works great for single player when you want to script a particular scene, but in multiplayer it's not something recommended.

I tend to agree with you Kami. The video does not appear to be smooth. The question is for me:

Does water, in the CryEngine, have density and will this density be effected by gravitational forces?

This quote taken from GC07: Community Q&A with Bernd Diemer - http://www.incrysis.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=465

Quote
Community: Is the water only on one level, like in Far Cry, or is it 3D?

Bernd: The water is 3D, that means it's possible to use water on different levels. (For example there's a waterfall arising from a lake which produces a river running to the sea.)

Does water, in the CryEngine, have density and will this density be effected by gravitational forces?

Unknown at this time.

I look forward to the oil splattering alll up and down the palce when the arm gets blown off my uziel. If I head into watter when my Thor over heats I wana see steam and bioling watter when I walk in.
Im sure of course to that we will see burning oil slicks on the watter in river and ocean fights? ;) ?

It will be exciting to see what else you guys can come up with. Watter cannons? Flame throwers based off of real time rendered fuel? Melting steel? Hot lava? Cool looking watter displacment? Watter treatment facilities that look cool when you blast'em? Or perhaps a fuel depo that spill out before it ignights? Babes with wet t-shirts that you could see their tits. Watter that pools or flows when it falls to the earth? I guess alot of things could "melt," ice, metal, rock(lava) paints and plactics, glass. Surly all of those thigns at once is overdoing it but precices placment would be awsome I think.

Lots of awsome systems in Cry2 to play with. Good luck guys :D
