I have already said that I wasn't asking (or even wanting) for the devs to release one :I

Also, it's not that difficult to make a VR-looking map look good. As for why it looks VR, could just call the map "The Simulator" or something :v

a little something for a solids city. I made a castle out of solids a long while back and probably used OVER 9000!- actually i dunno how many i used but when you get over a certain amount when you go in game only a certain amount will show up and the rest are yellow balls (they all work fine in the editor). i solved this by extracting something from the level.pak folder (forgot what exactly). but this made the autodownloader in wars not work. try to use brushes and crysis assets whenever you can or you might end up with the same problem I had- was never able to release that nifty map kuz of that =/

am curious ..as if you use "some random name of a 3d program"  are you still got be be wary of a polygon count? or can you go nuts ? ...
as i could continue building my mono rail station in solids ...or would i be better off learning lightwave or something then exporting back into SB2 ? as since i cancled WoW ..i need somethign to keep my brain ticking over ...( and NO ..playing MWLL is a reflex (( well is for me ..as i slipp into old MW4 habits and its a natural game)) ) so..i like building random things.
if a 3d program ...whats recommended ? ..as my photgraphic mate says lightwave ftw ..maya is poo and 3dmax can suck his left nut  "hes exact words"
other ppls opinions ?

I do like c4d pretty much but the problem is the cryexporter only works for maya and 3dsmax so you don't really have much choice.

Oh regarding the solids, it might help to use prefabs alot and a citymap is just perfect for that. It could help with the solid-limit issue Sannyasi mentioned. Not 100% sure how Crysis handles them though.

srs?? lol .....my mate drove over and handed me his copy of lightwave 9 and said keep it .....so i cant use any models with SB2 ? ....me thinks this idea is teh gay.
ponders , if you built something out of solids and then made it a prefab ...would this help reduce its count ..as its not classing the the  " building" as 300 peices of solids..but 1 single item?
or am i thinking SB2 is greater then it actually is ?

Herein lies why you should ask people who have actually modelled rather than a photographer :P,  Maya and max are pretty much the norm for 3d modelling, maya is tended to be used more for animating side than max does (as it's slightly easier to get to grips with and quicker work flow) but max is preferred by most modellers.  The easiest to export from is Max (imo), but you can also export the models from maya, blender and lightwave as well (all of which are very capable modelling programs), but I still think max is the best at handling CE2 models due to things like Multi-sub materials and the ease of use of the exporter.

max seems to be best for games and i think it's the only program that has the crysis plugin, i've tinkered with it a bit and it's an awsome program. as for the question on solids- i think you can probably just go nuts with them- i had thousands of them on my castle and still got way better fps than any stock crysis map. if you really need an idea of how many it takes to cause fps drops just copy and paste until theres as many as it takes to bog down your system, i've done that sometimes when i need to get an idea of how many objects can be used before performance is hurt- only when i need ALOT of them- like a full solids mwll map

welll..that may take a few days to  "bog" my pc ..as i added 300 mechs for giggles and it still was pulling 200 fps in editor ......+ 20 clouds and such..so ....yeeeaaa ...i might give that idea  apass.lol
well ..i got a copy of LW v9.5
so ..ill dance witht hat and see if i can replicate my mono rail support structer ...the hard part is gageing the size.as in SB2 you just whipp out a madcat and go..yep..thats about the right size..and carry on   =)

Maya is fine (and has a export plug-in made for it too), also there are exporters for the other two but they are a bit contrived way to do things.

As for max 2009, what seems to be your problem with it?  Is it just not getting on well with the program itself or is it crashing?

whilst amusing my self in in SB2 ....ive noticed Cl_Novacat_Mech , that i dont remeber it being in the list before.
you fellas hinting at something ?
and the fact if you try and load it , SB2 Crashes.

SB2 needs a way to add more Vertices to a cube so you can modify it more (i got my hands on lightwave 9.5 and 3ds max 2010 and they dont have any crytek export support), as making rubble for a collasped building , is uncovicning.

After many hours of hair pulling and a bottle and a half of blue label bourbon ..i have HAD SUCCESS!!
told crysis sandbox2 to bugger off and DIE , and installed crysis wars  , SDk and 3ds max 2009 and i am happy to report i can now import into my city map , but until the good folks at MWLL release files to work with crysis wars , it shall remain a WiP   :)
How odd ..if you resize  the imported objct from 3d max , it seems to loose its  "solid" ability and you fall through ..any 3dx / SB2 users got a work around for this ?
Or must i scale build the item in 3ds max and "just get the size right" before i send it to SB2 ?

P.s would look better if i had the madcat files to show size varitions  *wink wink nudge nudge say no more say no more"
