come on....
« on: January 21, 2010, 06:24:48 AM »
So today while playing i noticed quite a few people with the name "NO DRIVER"....after the devs fix the bug that was making the no driver tag appear on vehicles being piloted this is how we repay them? By trying to exploit it? I mean its not a horrible thing, but it certainly can help. I was tricked a few times when a LRM-partisan is sitting still hundreds of meters away with the NO DRIVER tag. I ignore it and then get blasted with missiles. This just seems like a really cheap thing to do. Off subject: Does anyone know how big, in meters, the grid squares are on the radar?

It's called camoflage.

And false flag operations are not illegeal - so what?  ;D

Nice idea there - but hardly gamebreaking, since players should catch that trick pretty fast (and it can only be done by one player/server anyway).

I remember in Planetside people would do the same thing but put CorpseOf in their name. Worked for about a day, then we just shoot anything. Considering in our game you get points regardless, there's no reason not to drop a salvo on him anyway.

I agree OP. It is a 10 year old kids move to try and exploit the map by what i consider "cheating". Anyone who logs in as No Driver is a Coward and a cheater period. You are doing it to get an unfair advantage against the other team. I should not have to waste ammo against a no driver mech to see if it is legit. Play the game fair or leave.

But this is only true if he is alone.
If I charge towards, lets say an Atlas with a clearly designated Pilot and a SCat with "No Driver" I won't shoot at the obviously empty SCat, for every single bullet will be needed fighting the Atlas.

And if I knew both were manned I wouldn't have attacked in this situation in the first place

Never arm once what you could arm twice.

In Lyran Commonwealth, Atlas scouts you.

It made me laugh.  It's a beta to boot.  The more these types of things are pointed out early in the testing the better our chances are of having them blocked down the road.  That's stuff I would never think to do but glad someone is now while the full attention of the devs are on the game and not later in a ladder match or something.

Fix proposal:

Hard-coded autokicker of anyome called "No Driver" built into the server app :3

A simpler fix would be to change the targeting color of any vehicle without a driver. So instead of having a red box around it, an unmanned mech would have a grey box. That way, a person named "No Driver" would still show up red, and thus manned.

Either one of these sounds like a really good idea.
