Are the bigger planes ever worth it?
« on: January 24, 2010, 09:28:02 AM »
They have a ton of weapons but are also very easy to shoot down. I'm usually in the top 3 just by using the T-bolt sulla. Ive tried the big expensive planes, but havnt really found a reason to stick to it. Lining up a shot with the gauss rifles makes me a big easy target. I cant shake off interceptor planes and even AC and missiles begin to touch me. It seems more effective just to use my T-bolts and donate all my extra to my teammates.

The Shivas are superior for dogfighting and bombing; they weaponry on the Shiva Prime and Shiva A can instantly disable another ASF, and the Shiva C has twice the bombs of the Sulla C.

If the other team is really aggressive with Sullas, then you might have some trouble. But the Shivas really do have some great firepower, especially the C variant. You can kill strong targets (Warhammer, Demolisher) in just a single run.

I change play styles when in Shiva's.  If I'm looking to counter other air assets, generally go with a Sulla.   Breaking advancing enemies lines, play either the FBomb or 80LRM configs Shiva configs played in a "stealth bomber" type role works best, ie stay in high alt, stay mostly in passive unless trying to acquire targets, and bug out as soon as the payload is away.

That's when you know your team could use one of those insane UAC AA Huits. ;)

The warhammer isn't an assault mech, it's a "lower end" (read: cheaper) heavy mech.

No, they killed me in an AWESOME. So yea, at least 80 tonners can be insta-killed, if not 90 or 100.

Spawn, buy plane, insta-kill or inflict 90% damage, die, respawn, buy plane, insta-kill or inflict 90% damage, die....

^seen a bunch of pilots doing that lately.  Really rewards their "skill" of being able to pull the firebutton once before the AA can inflict enough damage to shoot them down.

While you could just as easily say it's the other teams fault for not shooting them down I do agree that the Sullas seems to be a bit over powered.  I've seen people go 25-7 in a game because they can take down very large mechs extremely quickly, all the while they warp every step as if they have some kind of semi-phase engine.

No good pilot is going to let you get on their tail with that fat thing.

The plane has a larger payload, but is so big and easy to target that going with a Sulla and being able to survive to rearm is better IMO.

Oh, they're being shot down.  It just takes several seconds of sustained fire to bring a plane down.  Even without the lagshield, they can easily deploy their payload before their health reaches zero, no evasive action required.  With the lagshield, they are near invulnerable.

There isn't a single mech that I haven't one shotted with firebombs. Atlas are such easy pray, but quite hard to get in one shot. Guess i've gotten lucky often :D

It might be OP, but daaaaammnnnnn it's fun :D
