Are the bigger planes ever worth it?

Even without the lagshield, they can easily deploy their payload before their health reaches zero, no evasive action required.  With the lagshield, they are near invulnerable.

I've never had an issue with this, the ASF I kill even on their bombing runs die before they can drop.

Depends on the lag, it's very hard to keep the laser fire on a plane for 2 or so seconds to get the max damage of the lasers. Most people just use the AC LMG and SRM shiva.

With the Shiva's I love hitting other ASF that are so bussy bombing they don't see me come in from above...i break them right over their back ...that or I get in a laser boat mech of any type and I'm good at meltin their armor right off

If there is one positive thing (if you can call it that) about the airpower in this game, it's that I HATE them so much, that when I shoot one of those fappers down...I take sadistic pleasure in it like no other event in any other game I've played.

Vehicles seem less vunerable to firebombs - they seem to require direct hits to do anything more than light damage.

It is definetly worth taking the Shiva over the Sulla if you can afford it - the armor protection is far heavier and it has the firepower to seriously hurt ground targets without needing to run for ammo every time it fires.

The RAC/5s on the Shiva A are particularly effective at killing enemy aircraft too.

Note the armor is still fairly light compared to ground units, so head on dives into enemy fire still result in a dead aero, as all the damage is being done to one location.

Anti air units can down shivas without too much trouble. The sullas are harder to down I think since they are smaller and tend to warp around more. One light Gauss hit tends to bring a sulla down however.

The harasser C is quite good at anti air and dirt cheap. The partisan with ACs or RACs is quite good as is the Huit Prime. They also aren't terrible when fighting other ground units. The long range on light Gauss and AC2 can even allow you to shoot LRM boats while being outside their range.
