Eyefinity MWLL support
« on: January 25, 2010, 05:54:46 AM »
So I'd like to say, my first experience with MWLL came right as I got my new PC setup.

i7 920 @ 3.57Ghz on Air
12GB 2000MhZ DDR3 @ 1918 MHz
and...
Radeon 5970 With 3 27.5" LG monitors running Eyefinity.

For those that don't know, Eyefinity lets me run crysis (and a ton of other stuff) at ludicrous resolutions and wierd form factors by treating multiple monitors at one, REALLY big monitor (in this case 5760x1080)

I had an amazing battletechish experience this way that really rocked my world, however i had to keep glancing WAY off to the sides to see HTAL displays much to my dismay...

What would it take to have a flag in a config file to alter relative coordinates to bring in these edge anchored displays by 33% of resolution? I'd imagine this would either be REALLY EASY or REALLY HARD depending on how it's all set up in the code.  I'm a software engineer so I can relate to the possible challanges this may pose, but if it's super easy I'd really like this.  Also I've started a poll to see who else might ever care about this feature.

Thank you all in advance!

WOW! I'm seconding this.  I got it set up on Eyefinity a few hours ago (finally got my active adapter) and it's amazing! runs great on my Radeon 5870. I'd like to request that the side displays lock to the middle screen or something too, because I can't see my armor or my target or my gunz.  Otherwise it looks like i'm really there... or something like that.

And to think I bought a house when I could have bought one of these setups.   ::)

Awesome.  Just put off getting married this year or stop restoring my CRX and I could have one of these setups no problem.  Lol.  Putting this on the wish list....

Firoso:
What MB, PS, CPU fan, etc are you using as well?  And what's your OC specs/load temps/stress testing/stability if you don't mind sharing?
I am working on the i7 920 and such but haven't locked in all the variables yet.  I like to research all the aspects before making the purchases.

Sorry but I'm too poor to spend cash on X screens and than even more on set of GPUs which would handle MWLL in high details on such a high resolution.
Besides that - who really care? Future is 3D :D (Already play 3D MWLL - amazing!)

elaborate? Erm... well, you put the glasses on (nah, sorry, 3D-without-glasses screens are not in my shop yet ;) ) and you feel like actually being INSIDE the mech - just put your nose closer to the screen and it becomes freakin' awesome. You feel how far mech is away from you and actually want to catch that BA jumping onto your nose :D Amazing!

Only stupid smoke effects appearing at wrong depth spoil the impression a bit (*blame crytek*)

It's a whole new level of fun without spending much cash on it (Nvidia glasses are cheaper than LCD screen, or you can use 1$ red-green glasses which also work great), as all Nvidia cards you can have playable MWLL support this feature.

Well then, imagine Eyefinity AND 3D?  If that's even possible... now THAT would be amazing!

Love the set up Firoso!  I would like to do something similar, some day...

So, as my last post is now gone, cl_fov was recommended by a dev. But that doesn't do diddly in multiplayer. What's the deal?

I have no problem with not letting me drop FOV BELOW 60, but it's pretty much complete horseshit that you can ONLY get expanded FOV with an infusion of cash.

I don't have Eyefinity
But I do run 2 monitors and MWLL in a window.

Code: [Select]
r_Fullscreen = 0
r_Height = 1020
r_Width = 3350

RTFM

I just tried Eyefinity last night after getting a $30 DP to VGA adapter that is self powered so it doesn't technically count as passive and let me use all 3 monitors.

I had an amazing battletechish experience this way that really rocked my world, however i had to keep glancing WAY off to the sides to see HTAL displays much to my dismay...

I also have to reiterate what the original parent of this post stated, the HTAL, target and weapons display were way off to the right screen off in my peripheral view, and also the Chat log is way off to the left screen also in peripheral view.  While it was cool to see in action, it made it not possible to play at 100% ability since that HTAL/target/weapons information is so incredibly important. I would love to have some way of adjusting the positions of these rather than only being able to have them anchored to a side/corner.

Also anyone who is wanting to buy into eyefinity be sure of the following things before you begin:
  • You will want all 3 to be widescreen monitors, and the two side monitors should be the same size as each other, but its just fine if the center monitor is a bit bigger so long as all monitors have a resolution in common
  • You will need at least one monitor with display port, or you will need to buy an active display port adapter, meaning its powered
  • if you only have one video card, you will have to really reduce your graphics settings, so definitely suggested to go crossfire with it
  • Make sure your desk has enough space for 3 monitors, and consider where your mouse and keyboard are, if its like my desk which has a keyboard tray that doesn't twist then you end up having to sit in between two monitors instead of directly in the center of the center screen

Also adding to CapperDeluxe:

Where to get a CHEAP ACTIVE DP adapter that is CONFIRMED to work with eyefinity (I have it here working NOW.).

Its the sapphire DisplayPort -> VGA adapter. Yes, it IS VGA, but it works, no lag, and you dont really notice the difference. You can buy it at Pixmania in europe. National Pixmanias also carry it, as I bought it from Pixmania Portugal - when every other specialized Compter Store either doesnt KNOW what displayport is, or doesnt know that DP adapters exist, or simply dont have them.
