Whats the difference between tanks?
« on: January 26, 2010, 10:31:09 AM »
The Huits feel like partisans on steroids to me, and the demolishers appear to be frontal assault tanks. Is that about right as far as the roles for each tank?

Armour, speed, tonnage, weapon capacities...

Yeah, pretty much  :)

After the price increase, the only real difference I see between Huit and Demolisher tanks is Demolishers seem to be more artillery based, and heavily armoured, while Huits are more missile/laser based, less heavily armoured, and I guess, favour the sneaky little weasel sneaking up behind you, than the iron-clad juggernaut ruining your cockpit.

The huit is IMO a support-tank for the second line between the real assault-wave and the long range-line.
And you can raise the barrels  ~80°, same like the partisan -> great AA-platform.
But it lacks the armor and the speed for a direct assault.

BTW: I love the Oro. Damn hard, fast and small enough to get 'overseen' in the heat of battle. But its much too cheap (~25k). You easily kill a Mech worth more than double the prize of an Oro in close combat (all under 300m).

Depends, how heavy is the Oro tank? From memory, Demolishers are bloody heavy, 90-100 tonnes? (same as the Atlas), but pack less weaponry as a trade off for the lowered profile.

Anyone know what weight a Oro tank is? My guess is 50-60 tonnes (Warhammer), personally.

60t for the Oro, 80t for the Demolisher. It's the clan-counterpart to the Demolisher. And in an Oro i always survive longer than in a Demolisher. And score more points. For nearly half prize.
BTW: The Oro manages to drive 120 without a 'turbo'!
Yes, I love it. But I would double its prize.

Doesn't the Demolisher have much stronger weapons though? I have personally noticed both tanks are quite tough to kill, even if you're slamming gauss rounds into the same area over and over. Otherwise, the Oro might be a tad underpriced.

IMO the Oro even has the better weapons. e.g. Oro: 1 CLBX20, 1CLBX10, 2Flamers and 120 top speed. Demolisher counterpart? 2 LBX 20 and much slower (don't remember the speed). And these goes through all the variants. And because of its small size you just go on passiv. No one aimes at you, that dangerous Owens behind me is the bigger thread. Demolishers are a projectile magnet just because of their appearence. Even as a Partisan you pull more enemy fire.
The Oro only lacks spare ammo. Anyway, you got plenty enough right of the start. When its empty your are dead (and have raised a rank) or just
going back for repairs.

Anyway, probably its just my fault and I'm doing something wrong with the Oro. I gonna train a bit with this little bitch to die faster and score less points/kills. After some hours of practise I should be able to use it the right way to get it balanced again...  :o

Don't forget the Dual AC20 Demolisher and Dual Gauss. They do have quite some punch to them.

I like to Oro for the flamers. Nice to get the BAs down ;)

Don't forget the Dual AC20 Demolisher

I can forget it.  Oro UAC20 puts out similar damage with extra weapons to boot.

However, that's more along the lines of commentary against UAC's in general.  They make all the others seem weak by comparison.
Thanks for the view.

Hm... really? I never had any problems with UACs... just stay in range and LPL them while running fast, or come closer and cut the arms/turret with LBX. OR A4s :D ;P

The Oro with the EPPC and GR is great. It does a bit less damage than the 2GR Demo variant (which is my go to guy) but the Oro gets the benefit of enhanced optics

I dont know the demolisher prime is pretty amazing with its 6 tons of spare ammo. I was taking out heavy mechs with toro shots at 600m in the furball and the dual LBX20 can be just as deadly in a fire fight.

The lbx is pretty "meh" imo. You don't just need to be at close range to get good effect from the shot...you need to be simultaneously teabagging the target. The damage drop off from range seems very severe. Even on the maps that have closer contact ranges, the lbx is rarely optimal. It's better to take the 2 AC20 demolisher. It's still an infighting tank, but at least its effective range is better than point blank in the likely event that somewhat longer reach is needed.
