Unable to get enuff cbills in time...
« on: February 12, 2010, 04:29:04 AM »
OK, I have been playiing for a bit, and I cannot seem to get enuff CBILLS in time for the end mechs.
What are some of the methods for getting enuff cbills in time for the heavy and assualt mechs before the ROUND is over.

thanks,

Resist going Rambo in your mech. Staying alive is your first step to gaining ranks IMO.

as the above poster said. Don't be afraid to return to base to repair. If you see a battleline of mechs and tanks coming your way best to back off and not push your luck.
Dead= total cbills at dead - rank cbills (till a max of the rank cbills attained)- the cost of another mech/tank/VTOL.

The cost of a single death can be quite disgusting.

I'll always get to GC/SKN/KN, which will net you an Assault class mech.

As far as how I play,  I tend to play an assault role. I don't waste time hanging back with missiles, nor tagging. The extent of my tactics usually means using passive radar to close in for the kill, using jump jets to pop up, fire, and drop back behind cover, or stay just outside of a fight and pepper the enemies who are distracted by my teammates.

I favor mechs, and those that carry lasers, AC's, gauss, or PPCs. A typical progression for me is: I start with the pulse laser Uller, move to the beam laser Puma, go to the heavy gauss hollander, then its the gauss rifle demolisher, then the SSRM or 2 Cgauss Vulture. After that, I get a Madcat with gauss and beam lasers, followed by an Awesome with 6 beam lasers or 4PPCs. Next I'll get a Mauler with UACs or Gauss, and finish the round with the Mk2 (with gauss, lasers, and LRM10s or UACs) or an Atlas (with UACs or heavy gauss).

If all else fails, ask for donations. Players with extra c-bills are usually happy to contribute.

As you can see, my advice is different from the other two posters. Staying alive will help you to get more Cbills, but will slow rank progression since you'll be spending more time travelling back and forth and less fighting. My thinking is, if I'm a higher rank, I'll get the additional C-bills automatically from being that rank, rather than dying prematurely, and having to start with a smaller mech because I'm lower rank and can't afford the larger mech I was previously using.

Hope this helps.

I advise against going back to repair (unless you are close to base) All that matters is kills and the damage you deal.

Walking back to base is slow, time that could be better spent shooting at the enemy. I can usually earn more points by letting myself get killed and respawning than walking back to for repairs, or ejecting and fighting it out as BA for as long as possible.

Kill stealing with a Gauss Rifle equipped mech is probably the easiest way for raw points. Find a target someone else is shooting at, aim for the weakest section and let fly with the gauss rifle. Nothing better than getting credit for the kill from across the map when someone else did all the work.  ;D

Having said that, Always stick close to friendly units. never, EVER go it alone. If your buddy gets killed, find a cluster of friendly units to group up with.

Hmm... I used to be focused on the end mechs until I found that being in an Atlas is the fastest way to get all the other teams firepower focused on you. If you're near the 70k mark near the end of the game it's best to get the team to pool resources to field 2-3 Assault Mechs at a time.  It makes the enemies spread out their firepower and keeps you alive longer.

Ok, so instead of just running into a blast off face off situation, where I am getting 86'ed everytime is not the best way to move up in rank?

Ok, so back off and go for repairs...I will try that, I can get to the bushwacker mechs, but that's really the best I have been able to do as of yet.
It seems I am missing the "tactics" during the match.

Thanks a ton Storm_Crow....I will take this in and attempt to follow this progression.

I learned not to go toe to toe with tanks in the early mechs cuz I kept getting my ass handed to me each time.

It just seems that there is a certain way to play the rounds that I am not understanding just quite yet.

I'll keep at it!!!

I did notice that when I did go back for repairs, like if a arm was blown off, that is not going to repair it at that level, but if the mech is stil in one peice, is will correct???

Hey Mech Pilot 10,

I think I played a few games with you earlier today.  Honestly, it's pretty hard to rank up all the way to Khan and be able to buy Atlases and Madcat MkII every round in any game.  Pre-patch, it wasn't as hard, but the devs refined the ranking system.

The best advice would probably be just to get a lot of playtime in.  At the beginning, it'll be hard because you probably don't know all the different weapons, 'Mechs, loadouts, maps, etc., but as you play more and more, you'll gain a much greater understanding of how to do well in any given situation.  Rank is based on damage dealt, so 'Mechs and vehicles that can deal high damage very fast are pretty good at ranking you up.  Gauss rifles, PPC's, and missile racks tend to do very well in this regard, but learning how to use them correctly is a matter of experience.

Ask questions, play a lot, and you'll find yourself climbing the rank ladder.

P.S. Don't be afraid of asking for cash if you want to try out new things.  Most of the community is very generous in this regard, and very helpful towards each other.
Played MWLL for Guillermo del Toro.

It's usually best to avoid the Atlas anyway. While I will sometimes bring it, as soon as I realize that my opponents are savvy to the ease at which you can headshot it, I stick to the Mk2's.
