ok PC guru's help an old noob.
« on: February 12, 2010, 04:59:29 PM »
In the previous MW games I prided myself on my brawling ability. Now I suck at it... I was a joystick guy but I am geting better with the mouse and keyboard. My problem now is that the minute the server gets to more than 24 players my FPS drops to single digits everytime I get close to the enemy. With 10 or less I can brawl, sorta.

Phenome 2.4
8 gig ram
8800 gts video card
vista 64

I have my settings mostly at low and it seems to run better in 64bit.

what motherboard are you using?  This will let us know if over clocking is an option for you.  Also which phenom model is it?

processor = 9750
mobo= MS-7548
I do not think overclocking is an option.

ouch yeah, i googled a bit and the MS-7548 seems to be an HP specific board.  Don't think they're packing OC options in that.

Did you have a budget you were planning on for upgrades, or are you trying to squeeze as much out as you can from what you have?

What resolution you running? I have a friend playing with a single 9800gtx(upgraded version of your current card, not alot more performance) and a e4300 at 1.8ghz. He plays using 1440*900, med/high settings and doesn't experience drops like that that I aware of.

That same resolution is my highest option. I have actually tried everything between that and 800x600. The settings seem to make little impact on this issue really. I can max all of my settings out and still have a higher playabilty when the server is under low loads (ie.. 10 or less players)  than when the crowding gets bad with minimum settings. I have a feeling that its not my old video card that is the problem. Something is going to crap specifically when the server gets crowded. Proc maybe? I dont know. As to my budget I am a broke SOB. How could anyone have money if they spend as much time as I do playing MWLL:) When my income tax refund comes I may dpend a few hundred on upgrades but by that time the best "deals" will be diff than they are today.

From the other threads, I think it might be a two sided thing.  Your proc and the server not being able to handle the large player load.

I'm on a Core 2 duo at 3.0ghz with 4 gigs of ram and a 8800GT and get some stuttering on when servers get full but always stay in the double digits.

You could replace the mobo and proc for under $175 pretty easily with some top stuff. Could squeeze it under $150 if you not worried bout being in the mid tier.

It might be worth downloading AMDs amd overdrive, might let you OC the CPU.  I have my phenom 8750 which is the tri core version at 3ghz and no problems in the game.  I do have the black edition which is easier to OC but worth a shot.

I did download it but most options are grayed out.  Ofcourse I also have no clue as to what I am doing with it. Does it seam reasonable to assume this is probably a processor issue rather than a vid card one?

one thing you could consider, buying a new motherboard and case and turn your prebuilt into a custom computer that's fully upgradable. Your CPU with alittle OC'ing is still fast enough to be a good gaming cpu, and a new motherboard would open your OC'ing options. You could continue to use your current RAM, processor, hard drive, power supply(I would look into upgrading that ASAP if you go custom and start OC'ing) and video card. And then upgrade from there.

What settings are you running at?

On the Overdrive you will need to go to preferences and change to advanced mode (think thats what its called)
Then click preferences and clock/voltage.

The bus speed and CPU VID are the two that need to be changed for a chance of over clocking.
Heres an image- http://gigglehd.com/zbxe/softnews/files/attach/images/267/684/970/001/1.jpg
You could also get riva tuner which will allow you to try and OC the graphics card for more umph.

Hi 4204ME. In case you're wondering, my complete specs are:

Intel e8400 dual core, I overclocked it to 3.6GHz (from 3GHz)
4GB DDR2
GF8800 GT, 512MB, overclocked by the maker to 660Mhz core (+10% over stock), shaders 1650MHz (+10%) and memory 950Mhz (+5%)
32bit XP/DX9

The setting I run at are everything low except water and textures which are med. The game runs pretty well most of the time under these settings, 90fps in hangar, around 50 in battle and in rarely drops under 30.

MWLL should work ok on this hardware. Maybe it's a network problem?

Nah, network problems generally don't influence fps.
