Lone Wolves Thread

Feel free to delete, lock or move this. I'm in the position of wanting to participate in some competitive beta play.  Are unit commanders interested in knowing that I (and possibly other lone wolves) are available for competitive beta matches?

 I know there is a recruitment forum but short of going to every unit's website there is no way to tell which units would participate in competitive beta game play and which are waiting for a more polished release.  I'm willing to join up with a unit either as a filler or on a trial basis if they are organized enough to get some matches going in the beta.  Is this the place I would advertise myself?  Or can we move a lone wolves thread into the unit forum?

I like the idea of this thread, so it's hereby a sticky. Maybe this suits all those who are not yet fully convinced to join certain units but would prefer to help out on a match-base or something.

Maps: I prefer swamps and sandblasted for FPS reasons.  I have paradise and palisades loaded but not much experience with them.

Playstyle: Ok cool.  I'm a brawler hands down.  I can't wait to throw more armor on my mechs.  I'm probably an average pilot but a Grade A teamplayer.  I'm happy to hop into a public match and get on vent or TS and be evaluated by whomever for possible match play.  If I'm not fit then no worries it was fun trying out    If I'm deemed fit and there is good synergy I'm happy to commit to a unit as well.  In the end I can right cntrl as good as anyone lol.

Playstyle: I'm best at an assault role, using the element of surprise from fog of war and/ or passive radar to engage opponents. I will often use passive radar to go behind lines and after a straggling weaker enemy, such as an lrm20 Partisan and eliminate that threat. Once in the fight, I will abandon my mech when it can't fight anymore, and continue fighting on foot with portable PPC, small laser, and srms until killed. I only ever return to the mechbay if the distance to it is less than 1000 meters at a speed of 100 kph or more (or a relative distance i.e 500 meters at 50 kph).

Maps and how well I perform on them from best to worst: Marshes, Sandblasted, Inferno, Extremity, Clearcut

Playstyle: Iam a joystick jockey and a very good one at that.  However, I m currently using my KB/Mouse so Iam not as nimble as I usualy am.  But, I prefer close combat.  I want too see the enemies eyes when I kill em    BUT, I will also play a support role... Iam a team player above everything else.

Playstyle: I'm play quite a lot and could be a strong opponent or valuable ally. My preferences are long range sniping or close quarters assault, usually doing both in passive run. I'm not an LRM person. Don't hate them, just don't very good at using them.

 Primarily I pilot mechs, but also ok with driving tanks from time to time, more in support role than in front line assault, so Harasser C, Huit B and Demolisher A are my vehicles of choice. I could even fill dedicated AA role with AC partizan or UAC huit.

 Aero/VTOL piloting isn't my strongest side. I could fly any of them and not crash into the ground too often, but that's all.

 I never play as dedicated Elemental, but I have enough experience with BA combat so that I could severely cripple or even destroy a lone mech as BA. And I usually have no problems killing BA as when in a mech or vehicle.

 I like coordinated teamplay and try to use voicecom(skype, teamspeak) as much as I could.

Playstyle: Depends on the opponent. In regular fair battles I do close range mostly, with LRM spammers I go Tbolt shiva or A4 thing (whatever it'd be catapult, huilt or madcat2) - also try LPL Huilt for fun. Generally I'm not tied to one type of mech - on Extremity I often go with JJ/GECM mechs, from time to time I experiment with other mechs just to see if I still would keep my first place.

I'm pretty good Aero pilot too, so if there's such need I have no problems with doing AA cover from above, or bombarding reinforcements. My favorite attack is Tbolting sullas during dogfight. I hate AC partisans and tend to bomb them no matter the cost (my greatest weakness as aero pilot I think).

I sux as VTOL pilot... not that I cannot pilot it, but somehow I never managed to get top-3 with VTOL while I do that easily with aero.
Hovers... I prefer tanks, even on marshes. I'm quite decent AA unit and A4 beast, but I prefer mechs more.

BAs - I'm quite good at that, can be really annoying to enemy team, 8/10 BA vs BA battles end with me still standing. Only I don't like playing BA and rarely do that. More often I just like to die in my cockpit. I never go to battlefield as BA unit, and nearly-never buy any BA weapons (still I have no idea why....)

I love coordinated teamplay, even if that coordination happens only between 2 players. I always use teamchat, but never voicecom - don't even have any software installed (I think my net wouldn't handle that well).

Secondary Weapons: Tough question, lol. Ahhhh...honestly I'd have to say BA PPC and BA light laser? lol.

Favorite maps: (from fav to least fav, also from my best map to worst)Clearcut, Marshlands, Sandblasted, Inferno, Extremity. I have the other two maps that are out, but no actual fight experience on them.

Side: I ALWAYS choose the team that is loosing, even if the winning team is outnumbered. I will switch depending on whos yelling about uneven teams though.

Playstyle: Depends on whats goin on and how I feel like playing. Lately I really have been trying to focus a LOT more on teamplay - I always try to disable mechs before anything else, regardless of how little points I have. Disabling those mechs is much more important than ME getting the points for killing an empty mech, or a BA. For an LRM boat, I usualy will match their vehicle, unless someone else already is trying to counter them. I always look for a way to counter something on their team, so If they are all using heavy/assult mechs, I might grab a MED/light mech to draw their fire, get their backs turned to me so my teamates can take them out. As for BA's, If I'm in anything, and i kill an enemy(anything), and he ejects right before I kill him, I will take cover if possible, power down, and hop out to counter the BA. Yeah I could aim for a bit and hit him, especially with pulse lasers, But its much more suitable to kill a BA with BA. I think its more honorable too.

I havnt figured out why, but my aerospace mouse sensitivity is REDICULOUS, and unplayable, so I have almost no experience with them.

VTOL, I have more experience, but on a scal from 1-10, probably a 3. lol.

Tanks, I love the Demolisher(dual guass), or Partisan(LRM boat).

Interesting thread.  The reason our websites are out there is that we don't wish to overtly recruit on these forums.

It is encouraging to know that more people are interested in competitive play, whether or not you wish to join a unit.  I cannot speak for all the units, but I know that there have been several scrimmages between ours and other groups.  Good luck finding people you enjoy playing with!

It would be beneficial for individual units to update the unit threads in the recruitment section or even better start a new one in this section highlighting the fact that the unit is active in the beta and aggressively seeking match play. 

Many of the units in the recruitment section may have put those threads up a year ago.  If we're honest with ourselves this isn't an MMOG where players are going to get to know one another through casual chit chat as most pilots are too busy carving up metal with lasers to get to know a particular player well, much less a whole unit. The recruitment section has no replies and I think that is by design but how are lone wolves and units really supposed to connect in MWLL?  The platform doesn't really lend itself to matchmaking and if it's bad etiquette to recruit on these forums as well as on unit servers then we have a real breakdown in the community building process.  The result then is a system that does more to alienate new players than to invite them into a burgeoning community. 

What's the solution?  Well there are two parts to a relationship.  Unit looking for pilot and pilot looking for unit.  This thread serves the second half and hopefully units are being proactive than to go the way of so many MW4 league units bereft of players.
