LRM max. range
« on: February 22, 2010, 10:19:11 PM »
Hi everyone!

I just started playing MWLL and have some first question. The one that I am most curious about is:

1) What is the maximum range for LRMs?

It is definitely more than 1500m. After exceeding 1000m they will not lock on but they will still impact at the point you are aiming for. This is ideal for shooting at tanks/mechs that don’t move or stopped for a short period (don’t forget to turn off the radar).

2) Are there other weapon systems available that can reach or exceed this range (esp. any energy weapons – without ammo?)

Yes – I am a long range camper from time to time, but that’s what LRM tanks are designed for – long range support for attacking units – in MWLL and in the real world.

3) Is there a detailed list with all the MWLL gear available (vehicles, weapons etc.)

Cheers
Callea

I believe LRM's have a max range of a little over 1000m (maybe 1200m or so?).  They can only lock on/operate under 1000m but will fly long enough to travel just outside of 1000m distance last I remember.

ELRM's have an operating range of 1500m or so.  ArrowIV's have a range of 3000m IIRC, but can only lock on within your active radar range.

LRMs travel beyond 1500m in my experience

I've taken on a tank outside the 1000m mark and beyond 1200m, it didn't seem to work properly, so I'd say 1200m

You can dumb fire a standard LRM on a target at 1200m even though your lock on only works 1000m and less

All LRMs seem to be able to travel any distance to reach a TAG or NARC target

I know I dumbfire killed a Catapult on clearcut a few days back using the LRMS on a Maddog (Vulture) D at 1468m away. So I'm pretty sure they have a range of at least 1200m.

Solid projectiles do travel a bit further than their specified range.  energy based weapons stop right on the dot, though i'm not totally sure about PPCs

AFAIK all AC's have unlimited range, but with reduced damage when hitting something past their max range.
All Gauss weapons also seem to stop on the dot, like lasers.
PPCs travel a small bit beyond their max range I think, at least I vaguely recall hitting something out at 800m with a standard PPC, but I'm not totally sure...

Beyond 1000m you'll only be hit with LRMs if you're standing still, which you shouldn't be doing in the first place, unless you're missile boating too, in which case you should get some nuts.

What should lrm's do when they reach their max travel? Drop down like dead birds? Dissapear just like that? Or gradually decent their flight paht and hit ground near the max?

Well... they should explode in hope to at least splash-damage something.

Hm.. it's odd that Lasers stop... IHMO they should keep going, just with very reduced damage so say... max range=600m, so after 1200m damage is only 5% of original, after 2000M it's 1%, and so on.
Damage  drop for lasers isn't realistic (they should keep full damage for battlefield-wide endless range, shouldn't they?) but it's better that lasers which disappear in front of your nose ;)

Splash damage yes, when they've reached their max flight.

ELRMs with an ECM (or is it BAP) equipped mech have a lock out to 1200m if I'm not mistaken.  Take the catapult with 2 ELRMs out for a spin if you want to 'missiles away' to your hearts content.  Also I think you can lock off an C3 mechs radar?  Not sure.

Also, Narc and TAG make fire support really deadly at range.
