In canon they could switch between IR, UV, seismic view, radar view, magnetic anomaly, satellite view, use the additional data from chemical sensors, microwave, or motion detectors. Everything could be mixed within one view displaying different data for different targets. So it's far more advanced than "In cannon we know they have a 360 degree view strip".

You won't be able to get 360 degree view because all the cameras are placed on  3D model of the mech, so you'd always have something obscuring the view.

What I think would be a nice thing to have is the back view. To avoid surprises ;)

Well In Mechwarrior 2 you could choose between weapons view (missiles mostly), rear view, view ground, 3rd person, Satellite up-link (birds eye wire frame), Radar and armor displays.

uuuh yeah how could i forget... :) good additions to rearview!!!

bullet-trace (for missiles) would be a super-nice bling-bling feature and maybe useful for creating ingame videos when accessible on whole screen in spectator mode too ;D

ground view would be totally needed if it's going to be possible to kill the pilot by jumping on another mechs cockpit (jump of death? i dont recall what it was called in english)

3rd person view wont be there prolly due to the same reasons it's not implemented in the main view, satellite/radar/map are not needed with the current HUD

or the "highlander burial"  ::) only when done by a highlander though
as for external cameras, forward facing legs at 45 degree angle and has to be toggled on a seperate screen.
