Supreme Commander 2 will especially be appreciated by gamers who are looking for a real challenge.
Fighting on multiple fronts, constructing new buildings, recruiting new troops and seeking for new techs you get all at once.
Even though the graphics are not top I fully enjoy the game.
The only issue is that the intricate tech tree system sets a pretty steep learning curve for the game that can scare off lots of young, inexperienced players.
The harder you fall, the higher you bounce.

I'd prefer the complicated tech trees over the resource management of the first SupCom.  Don't get me wrong, I loved the game, but I sometimes wished for a simplified mechanic so I could more easily engage in mass warfare.  Yet to pick up the second one, but eagerly awaiting it :D

Sorry, but I lol'd at complicated tech trees.  It's really not all that complicated, you either:

1) Try to go for a certain strategy or build order that you hope might work based off your playstyle/faction and your opponents playstyle/faction.

or 2) React to what your opponents doing based on scouting/structures built/playstyle and research to counter it.

If by complicated you mean lots of pretty buttons, then yeah, I guess so.  I guess I'm just salty that most of the depth associated with regular SupCom is gone, it's really a totally different game that features similar assets.  It's like SSBM to SSBB, both fun for different reasons.

That being said, if anyone has the game, I'd be down for a few fun matches/comp stomps.  Steam ID: Arctorn

I really want to get this but Im holding off untill the inevitable balance and feature patches are done down the line. Currently suppcom2 is going through the "ACU Rush/Gunships > all" phase which is funny because the first supcom had the same phase it went through before it was balanced.

Not to mention I still want features like being able to pproperly que and save skirmish games, and do not want to get it until such features are patched or modded in.

I played the Demo and found it interesting, but not interesting enough for me to buy it.  I guess the first Supreme Commander held a soft spot in me because I loved Total Annihilation and it made base building and resource management the same.  The new system isn't necessarily bad, but it just doesn't click with me in the way the previous game did.
Play my free open source web game MiniMek - Urbie Defense!  Its "mega fun" but with mini meks!

Got this game on a gut feeling. Don't regret it at all, it kinda reminds me of generals spam spam spam :D It's not completly balanced, but it's so much fun :D

Ai can be a little stupid, or a little cheap (If you don't disable nukes it just spams them non stop at you so lame) but I have yet to play online properly so i'll see how well that goes soon.

Brought it off steam, and don't regret it.  8) 8)

Ugh.. I really regret getting it. Been a long time fan of the original and TA, and it just feels so watered down. There are barely a handful of units for each side, and all concepts of mixed unit forces are pretty much thrown out the window, just spam whatever unit you want to upgrade the most.

Story was bad, graphics were bad, and it just ended up being a rush for the cheap experimentals online, such as the UEF gunship. I miss having to manage my economy, sure it was challenging, but once you learned the in's and out's, it was second nature. It feels more like they gutted the original to try and attract more people, but all they did was turn it into a clone of many other RTS games on the market. I also did not like Steam making me wait THREE HOURS after I bought it off a store shelf before I could even play by myself. Three hours is not too bad, but it still rankled with me.

Verdict: If you like RTS games, and want something fairly quick and easy to get into, SupCom 2 is your game. Or go get C&C 4, its hard to tell the difference sometimes.

Supreme Commander 2 raped and killed my favourite RTS, leaving a bloodied husk, with bits torn off behind.

If you couldn't handle SupCom, I pity you; if you then still can't handle SupCom 2's "complexity" then you don't have a hope in the world.

My most awaited game this year turned out to be a steaming pile of consolised faeces, and I am suitably bitter.

Ughhhh....I haven't tried SC2 out but I absolutely hated SC1+FA.....

And that's coming from a fan of TA from WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY back.

But seriously, if I was to have any fun with SC1 I had to cheat to get money so I could compete with the godlike AI...that's not my idea of fun. I never had problems with resources on TA, but SC1 threw me off the damn train and shot me....

And the soundtrack sucked too.

I know this thread is a little old, but I like strategy games, and I was thinking of checking tis one out.

How is the pace/ play style?

Is it like Dawn of War, where the game is pretty fast paced all the way through and quick thinking and gaining ground is important?

Is it more like Civilization (I know it's not real time) where thinking ahead and resource management, along with a relatively complicated tech tree are the main points of the game?

Ugh, I just have to express my disappointment for SC2, ruined the economy, not to mention no more custom maps. The research is ok, but the smaller maps and lack of units are not.

AI is still not working properly either, half way through a 4v4 skirmish my fellow UEFs went blank after they built about 4 Heavy Artilleries each, blobbed up huge armies at their base, and just sat there. The cannons were firing at bases that did not exist anymore, and all of their units set idle.

It's like EA and C&C all over again...

Just give me SC1/FA with SC2's graphics and I'm set.

I find the game to be ok, I dont mind so much the simplification, but I found it to be way too short and easy to complete.
I was done with the whole thing running medium difficulty in about 2 days.
In addition I dont like the way you are forced to play each faction to complete the campaign.
I much prefer to have 3 factions each with their own campaing instead of this 3 factions 1 campaing stuff.
