Harasser needs more speed
« on: February 25, 2010, 05:59:26 PM »
The armor is paper thin, and light mechs (even some heavier ones too) go faster. Harasser is supposed to go 162kph, which would give it a touch more survivability, and the ability to actually catch up with mechs. I know MWLL isn't following the TROs exactly, but in this case, I think adjusting the speed to more closely match it makes sense. Hovers are supposed to be annoying little speed demons, not Partisans with half the armor.

It already is the fastest ground unit ingame (I think), at least with activated turbo.

But a little more speed would be great for the two close range variants, so I support that suggestion.
Maybe we could raise the speed +20kph and give the turbo mode only to the SRM and MBL variants.
(This way the LRM and LGauss would roughly stay the same while the 2 other variants gain a little speed)

'Turbo mode' doesn't actually do anything, other than make that boosting noise. Top speed stays the same, around 109kph. Definitely too slow compared to a light mech. Partisan goes only a tiny bit slower, and Oro is faster. I think even the Demo goes 90ish.

It's probably bugged like the Cougar's MASC is.

Since i had nothing to do anyway I just tried this... and you're right.
How did I manage to miss that bug  :o
The LGauss-Harasser is my favorite early game unit, so i use it all the time...

Turbo does not speed you up and it doesn't help you accelerating (does not generate heat eather), it just makes sound.

Just imagine you're going faster.  It really works.  I swear.       :'(

Red ones go faster.

Turbo currently gives you the ability to climb mountains try it on clearcut  :o

It would be very nice to see the harassers speed increased or its turbo working.

Turbo increases your "torque", but also lets you hit top speed from stand still faster than if you were just to hold down the throttle.

It's useful if you took a sharp corner, but need to get moving again, fast.

I tried that just a little over one hour ago, and I did not notice any difference between accelerating with or without turbo, additional there was no difference in top speed or generated heat (or anything else for that matter).
I'd repeat that test now, but unfortunally I have to use the other computer right now which is... a bit to old for crysis  ;D

I think it needs more mass than speed, at the moment. If you so much as touch a small rock, you go flying in the air end over end and then get shot by a Gauss.

Some Oros can outrun them.

Any light mech with with MASC can run a harrasser down very easily. I would like to see a top speed of about 170kh on the harrasser.

I have no idea if crysis will allow it, but if they were controllable like a BA (strafing, ect) they would be a bit more useful.  Hovercraft have this ability IRL.  As of right now they get obliterated by light mechs that are faster and heavies that can one shot them...

to get back on topic...:

I totally agree with the thread starter! Hovercrafts need to be much quicker! They are made to quickly go in and out the battlefield, having the ability to escape any ground unit by superior speed (which is needed with such thin armor).
