The NEW map feedback thread
« on: February 26, 2010, 02:59:49 AM »
Thought I would do a v2 of this thread since a lot of maps got some big changes done with them (mostly on clearcut and inferno) and a new map got added :)

Post opinions, what you like changed and what you don't like!  Don't hold back, I want to cry when I'm done reading this thread (even if your opinions on the levels haven't changed from previous)  ;D

I'll give you my opinion in... *looks at time*  About four or five hours, how that sound?  Mean while, I'd like to ask what kind of setting Frostbite has... Is my hopes for a snowy city type map too high?

Frostbite and Clearcut tend to break the servers in their current state, it seems.

Although from what I have seen of Clearcut, it definately looks like my fav.

In a groundbreaking new feature, MWLL will include a new gametype: MechRockerBandHeroKersplosion.  Pilots will smash the throttle to classic 80's speed metal using custom ethernet plugin to real guitars.  PPC's will be triggered by power chords, and LRM ammo is selected by playing one of 17 distinctive hammer-on rifts.  Get a teammate elemental to hop up on your mech's shoulder and throw up the horns, and with a hot duel you can deflect enemy fire BY THE POWER OF YOUR ROCK!

My fav is still Marshes, though the Long Tom makes it an interesting map... but the Long Tom will certainly be another topic all on its own.

Sandblasted still comes in front of the new map though, but only because there were a few valley chokepoints in the new map near the one team's spawn that people just wanted to hang out behind and funnel you in.  Maybe letting aerospace in the fight would help since I'm rubbish with VTOL  :o

I haven't played on extremity much so it may have been possible before, but with the new MPPC kick back, a BA can literally fly forever coupled with jump jets, quite funny really.

Extremity looks a bit more open with wider paths. The low gravity still feels wonky in a way. I also had some texture problems (made a bug thread about it).

Marshes is still marshes and sandblasted is still sandblasted, with a couple of added walls here and there. I haven't deliberately tried getting stuck on any rocks or tree roots yet though.

I miss the old clearcut, but I like this new clearcut. I think we need a map where LRMs play a dominating role, like the old clearcut. This new one still looks awesome though. Now that tree stumps shouldn't cause problems, I look forward to fighting more on this map.

Still need to try inferno and frostbite, will post when I get lucky enough to see it on roster.

Not sure if it's a bug or just me, but was just doing my usual tanking on Marshes, and whereas before I could trundle along through the water patches in my Parti/Demolisher without worry, now I have to avoid them.

Several times exiting the bottom left clan base I'd randomly get thrown up in the air, doing vertical 180s and 360s.  Feels like there are some odd objects stuck here and there that weren't there before.

Clearcut is a great map, but now trees are looking really awful at distance. It ruins the complete ambiance.
Its running here with max settings but this doesn't take influence on these damn trees...
Trees with a distance of ~50 meters and more are displayed in awful low quality,
that means you have to be almost right in front of one to get a good quality.

So this really disturbs.  :'(

I've yet to see a server with people on it running Frostbite, which is a shame, it looks like fun.

Voted Sandblasted, has the right mix of open spaces while still having enough cover for faster mechs to get into range.  Also, the pyramids are just cool.

I haven't had time to play all the maps this week do to college, but I did have time to pay the new inferno. I love it! Good job! It does seem that the battle is focused on the center and the team who controls that controls that match. Lot sof brawling, I loved it!

I like inferno and the revamp to clearcut. Inferno won out due to the problems caused by clearcut.

Personally I don't like the new Inferno.  I very much miss the old CQB style map, combined with high ambient heat that forced alternative thinking from players.  Next to no long range camping, pewpew laser boats were unuseable, and all up front and personal.  The new one is just way too big, but retains all the craggy hills and overhangs that still force close battles, but you have to walk 5 minutes to get to those battles now.  Please reintroduce the old Inferno as a separate map.

The changes to Clearcut don't seem to change much (I'm not saying that in a bad way), it just still plays teh same mostly.  Aside from being x10 laggier than it used to be.

New Extremity is good, like it.  Good mix of terrain and open areas, and a lot easier to get around on.

Frostbite - meh, dunno.  I like the smooth open rolling hills, but it's too big.  And too god damned bright.  I don't want to wear sunglasses to play a game, I really don't.  It also makes chat and system messages unreadable.

Sandthingy - similar to before, and in my opinion the best all round map.  It has long range areas, close range areas, very unlaggy.  I did however play on one server today that had some insane fog/dust going on all the time with about 40ft visibility.  Don't know if this was a glitch or what, as the other 0.2.0 Sand maps I've played on haven't had this.

Sandblasted was my fav in 0.1.0 and i think my new favorite is frostbite.

Frostbite still has some flavs such as the long distances and the brightness...

Haven't played sandblasted that much in the current patch yet but i think its about as good as before.

Extremity seems nicer with wider valleys and in general more space to move around and turn around... Though it still has some problems like the too-low gravity that still gives the battle armor the ability to fly, outmaneuver and outrun pretty much every land vehicle. Maybe the gravity could be lowered to a point that the battle armor can get just enough boost for jumping and flying over a mech from one side of the hill to the other and just enough power to jump from mountain to mountain...

Marshes, hasn't changed.. it's still the same. It's OK but I think it's a bit boring when compared to other maps...

Inferno looks better but still difficult to navigate (for me :D ) and well i dunno it's fine i guess.

Clearcut is still Clearcut even with the added rocky walls, even though lrm camping might be a bit harder to pull off, it still happens. But yea this map has quite some issues with getting it to run and the slightly staggering gameplay... Frostbite has the same thing with getting the game to run i think...
