Smack talking Buzz

Sorry, have to jump in here and ask if you've ever played Buzz?  I have, maybe only a few times, and every time he impressed me.  I'm willing to take what he says at face value because I know that he knows what he's talking about.

Yes, I've played him. My name in game is (TLL)Cuth, I made my forum account before I joined TLL.

NOTE: I have rage quit, but only to LT.

SO if you think I rage quit another time.. well this game isnt the most stable thing in the universe.

I hate to make the point, because it sounds like being cocky, but when I play these games I attempt to break them.  It isn't out of any desire to annoy people specifically, it just is how I play.

The LT was a bit overboard for me.

I really wish that there were stats I could point to to at least back up any lack of "being a newbie" that you might feel apply to me.

I dont have the highest kills on the stats that are taken because I play about 1 hour to 2 hours max, and sometimes skip nights, so I dont have quite the ratio others do.

To make a point, the game that I rage quit on I had 7 kills and maybe 5 deaths.

I keep screenshots of every game I play, except the 2-3 I ragequit with long toms on.

I might be just having sour grapes because I like how the game plays without them.  This is true, I admit that, and I am willing to man up to it.

But the fact that I can, and HAVE been responsible for the enemy team emptying out by using Long Toms against them doesn't lend me to believe that I am incorrect.

I DO KNOW that I play organized with 2 people (most of the time).  To give an example where niether of them played

the 10-0 one below is from tonight about 10 or so minutes ago on the fed suns server.

the other one is from another game (27-0).

Again, for you these could be well chosen screenshots of particularly good games, but I assure you that I have 30 more that show similar scores from the last month, I take screenshots of nearly every game (I miss some, and a few that I Rage quit in, but lets say I died 10 times in those 3 games, it wouldnt affect my KDR much).

I can tell you that my worst KDR so far since the patch was on 3/23/2010 in a match on the Fed suns server where the fed suns guy stacked the teams and gave my group a run and beat us.  Which taught me the importance of shooting off peoples arms.

Again, i totally realize this may be sour grapes on my end as (other than that screenshot) I did die 5 times in a game, all of them against a long tom user (I think ?) who was shelling the base with long toms.

By the time I rage quit he had something 40+ kills and the game wasnt even close to over.

Considering I have never gotten close (though I have seen Maverick Original and Bhlur get close!) that was pretty amazing.

I have never had an enemy team stick around long enough when my group was abusing it.

I hate Aircraft in this game, if I die from one, I leave.  I wish I could just fire back at them from a Mech.

It's all good and I've witnessed Buzz in action and can attest he is not a NOOB pilot. I can also state that 1FSAC never intentionally "stacks" a server, we play together and we use comms to communicate. Nothing new here it's a team sport to us and when we recognize that it's unbalanced or someone reminds us from the opposing team we don't have a problem switching to the other team to level things out.
On to the subject of Long Toms, I bear witness to last nights battle as I was (check the screenie by Buzz) on the side with Buzz and was quietly patrolling the rear flinging missiles out of my trusty little Owens at YES my beloved 1FSAC teammates in support of Buzz's and those on his side. My 1FSAC buds built a LT (I am on comms and hear them planning  8) ) which promptly died when it came out so they built another and it was killed pronto and they stopped spending the $$$ on LT's and went back to mechs. Soooooo the most effective way to stop LT's is to find them and kill them, it's not hard to do - go passive find that LT and terminate it, if it's guarded by a lance of mechs well they can't guard it against a mech at 1499m, they can try but it's hard to do.
I play the supporting role for the LT also and it's a lot of fun; for example on Marshes my teammate takes an LT and I run the Raven with C3 feeding data back. It's a blast to call out targets and then communciate to the LT to shorten or lengthen etc... until he gets them dialed in BOOM!! bad guy gone and the other side after about 6 kills (they must be slow learners) figure out that the LT has a C3 somewhere in the area and all of a sudden I'm PRIMEd by 4 Battle Armor's hunting and finding and running the little C3 mech away. Back to base to repair, wait 5 and then it's back to the swamp to hide, paint and direct more LT damage. It's fun on both sides - I don't mind hunting them and I don't mind supporting them.
I welcome the variation this game brings with all the toys available. Hey if it wasn't for the LT's then we'd have to resort too using TAG or NARC's which is another tactic we should be complaining about since that TAG works so well. I mean isn't it awesome to be able to call the rain of pain to a general area and time your reveal so you step out paint the target with TAG - watch it get obliterated by 500 missiles being fired from multiple locations on a map and go silently searching for another target. Awesomest game I've played in a long time and I thank the Dev's for their work in bringing it to the community.  :) Keep it coming

~S~ Buzz. Screenshot 0004.jpg I think you was slackin.. pick up the pace a bit will ya...lol

Your a darn good player awell as  alot of people out there. Ive pulled off some 10 and 15 kills to 0-1 and 2 deaths before and it all depends on the map, the mood and the drink and the team. Most of them time when i got them good scores iam usually in the back boating though or i run in a get a kill and flea back to the repair bay so i dont loose my ride. Last night on Sandblasted your team was rockin us big time and i was about to quit...Your welcome on our server anytime.

Also last night on clearcut we was watching a certain player get a vtol.. fly across the map.. eject and crash into the hanger and try to spawn rape.. Didnt matter that he had 6 kills and 13 deaths, he died and kept coming back everytime. Wondering if the team he was on noticed and if something was said. He was not helping the team out 1 bit with the deaths he was getting.

Ohh this thread was about Long toms....??? Dont camp.. keep moving...

I dont think you guys were using your long tom well, no offense.

You had it at the bottom of the pyramid, with no LOS to the other side, and you werent playing WITH the long tom, it was simply on your team, but it kept driving up to the battle.

When Smalls/I use the long tom we rarely leave the base, since we are usually (usually) the backbone that pushes the teams forward to a specific engagement area, this usually makes it so that the pilots on the IS team (usually play clan) line up at the ridge line around the pyramid.

then we long tom the ridge line, and anyone that tries to get to the long tom gets killed by turrets.

That is, if you want to use the Long tom correctly on the map you just make the enemy team come to you and punish them if they try to attack in any meaningful way.

Anyone can use a long tom badly, no offense.

But with practice and if you play conservatively, you can do well even against good players.

IF you really want to win with the long tom, just get somewhere you can dial in on the enemy base, and just shell it, the blast goes through the ceiling and kills the elementals as they spawn.

FUN TIMES.
I hate Aircraft in this game, if I die from one, I leave.  I wish I could just fire back at them from a Mech.

Something I hope never to see a 1FSAC pilot doing!

I would expect that any self-respecting clan would dishonourably discharge members found spawn-camping like that...

On a side-note: One thing about the LT is it's 100% accuracy. Now, modern-day artillery is quite accurate, and is getting more accurate as time goes on, but in this case... I think inherent inaccuracy at long ranges would make for more challenging, interesting and potentially hilarious use of LTs :D

In general, the team likes to avoid built-in randomness, especially for something as critical as targeting.  There are better ways to balance weapons than introducing inherent deviation.

Another suggestion then, albeit somewhat more drastic: Remove the range readout from the LT HUD. Use Spotters and a static "Sight" instead :D

Slated changes for the Long Tom have already been delineated (above) in this thread.  We will not be removing the range indicator.
