Praises and Suggestions for 0.2.0
« on: February 26, 2010, 05:31:44 PM »
Great job on the update devs. Tons of new toys to play with and great new maps. I like that we have a pricing system setup, but i am wondering how the pricing is assigned. Like it doesnt seem right that the osiris mech with an AC20 would cost less than a raven with a PPC and 2 MPL. I know the raven has quite a few electronics on it, but with how powerful the ac20 it should balance out. On a side note, that osiris bugs the heck out of me because thats all ppl use now lol. Just played a match on the marshes with about 10-15 of em running around each other. Other than that, the only other problems i have seen are small balancing issues which i know will be handled in due time. Great update again, and keep em coming!

P.S. Server admins, you guys should get some low number servers out there, like 16 player, allows for 1v1 duels and what not.

AC-20 isn't all that. Remember it's the single-shot variant.

I'm liking the new C-Bills system for the most part. However a few issues really stand out:
1. An Atlas costs less or just as much as a Madcat
2. The Novacat (heavy) costs way more than an Awesome (assault), but with near identical loadouts
3. The PPC/MPL Raven costs more than an Osiris with AC20

Its a good idea to make variants cost according to loadout, but perhaps you should factor in the size and weight of the chassis more.

still its a 14 ton weapon on a fast 30 ton mech with masc, jumpjets, a ton of free amo, very cheap, additional weaponry, a 360degree torso,...
no wonder all take it. standard ac-20 or not
something smells like cheating on that mechsheet there  :o
Add a better camper weapon to stop camping.... i still dont get it.

I don't worry about the cost since it's probably the best preview of how cost per item/weapon will work with the mech lab we've seen.  Also, they'll keep tweeking prices will it fits more correctly.

Also LOVE LOVE LOVE the apc, it's like the ice cream man bringing goodies for everyone.  However I do think that the ammo buying and BA spawn should only be active if someone is in the driver seat.  I've already seen several games where there are several empty APCs in excess of player being used as respawn reload points.

Just a question.... what was the Vehicle that was left out of the 2.0 patch?

Also, what was so bad about the old Cbill tiers? I havn't used the new 1 but why change it?

Clan mechs cost more because they are more effective.

1. An Atlas costs less or just as much as a Madcat
An Atlas uses IS technology and the Madcat uses Clan. See below.

2. The Novacat (heavy) costs way more than an Awesome (assault), but with near identical loadouts
Novacat has more double heat sinks than the awesome and is more maneuverable. you can group fire the Novacat consistently on Inferno while the Awesome overheats on group fire. Weapon loadout isn't everything.

3. The PPC/MPL Raven costs more than an Osiris with AC20
I think the Raven's longer range with the PPC and ECM suite might have something to do with the pricing.

Size and weight aren't as important as speed, armor weapons and the ability to use each effectively.

1. Yep.
2. The Long Tom really is a little bit overpowered.
3. Marshes is way to small now; at least in my opinion (my team fellows prefer it this way though).
4. Extremity is now my favorite map. Good Work :)
5. Inferno also way better now.
6. MRMs are pretty awesome too.
7. Somehow I tend to say the price system is a little weird and needs some adjustments. How come that the Puma with 6ERMLaser costs more than a Warhammer with MRM and AC:10 (just to name one example)?
8.Mechs which have been ignited during battle still burn after repair. :D
9. C3 Chain works great.
10.Increased speed for Aero is a nice balance addition.
11. Thanatos and Nova Cat seem a little overpowered but seem to add up in the mix.

That's all I can think of atm. :)

yeah i forgot to mention in the OP that i love the APC; it really stops all that whining ppl had who would drive their big assault mech out to the battlefield then run out of ammo. The Long Tom has made me curse then jump for joy so far. I curse when a shell smacks me in the back and cripples/kills me, but i cheer when i find one unprotected. I then alpha-strike the thing into oblivion for revenge =D.

I feel this is to help them make the transition over to the mechlab with more ease.  If cost is based on per item/weapon then it's easier to figure total cost with an equation rather than total variant cost.  Also allows for balance changes to flow down faster than having to tweek them on a mech by mech basis.

And the Thunderbolt is a 15 ton guided weapon on a 25 ton chassis, not to mention the 4-ton NARC and 5-ton LRM-10 :)

The AC-20, again, isn't really that great. Its damage is comparable to a PPC, only without the heat... and with ammo. It's a good weapon, sure, but autocannons are kind of broken all around. AC-10s, for example, fire ridiculously slowly, carry very little ammo, and don't really do much damage.

Supposedly, Joystick support is out now. My joystick dosn't work with it though. If you have one, use an Xbox 360 control.

Joystick support is only mostly there. Throttle still has problems, and of course you have to manually alter the XML. I still for the life of me can't figure out how to map the POV hat switches.

Once the throttle part is solved I'll be happy, because everything else works well once you tweak the values you need.

Also a joystick "shift" function would be nice, just like in MW4, that really helps map all the functions one might need to a stick with less than 20 buttons.

Could you please define the problems you are having with the throttle. We can only test what we have internally which is not all that much, and for those on the team with setup joysticks they now report the throttle working. I can say for my Saitek X45 the only problem I have is the stupid slider throttle only goes from 148 to 1000, and is inverted.
