Crysis SP demo delayed
« on: September 23, 2007, 06:49:20 AM »
This just in from TotalCrysis http://crysis.totalgamingnetwork.com/

"We've been sent some news today on behalf of Cevat Yerli, CEO of Crytek. Take a look:

Hi everyone, we have some news to announce.

First, I am sorry for the bad news - the Crysis single player demo will now be available everywhere on October 26th, 2007.

We are taking some extra time to make sure you that you have an amazing experience but also we did not want to risk the release date of Crysis at this stage. To get the game into your hands by November the 16th, we had to make this call.

Now the good news - the big surprise. The SP demo will be released with our CryEngine 2 - Sandbox 2 game editor, giving the community the opportunity to get familiar with the vast amount of tools they will have at their disposal four weeks before we ship, something we have always wanted to do.

This is an exciting time for us at the studio as the development of Crysis comes to an end and we are only a few weeks from Gold Master. We appreciate your patience and are looking forward to getting Crysis into your hands on November 16th.

Stay tuned for more announcements regarding both Crysis and the demo."

Well now.... don't that just suck!?

Not really. Being on the Professional Developer side of the fence for about 3 weeks now I have a better understanding of why they have to push back release dates. In this case it's a push back of just the Demo and not Gold. There could be a number of reasons why they did this, the main thing I think why is because they found something that could fapp the game right over and have a fear that the public will find it in the Demo which will drive players who check the Demo out not to Buy the Gold version.

Crytek isn't stupid, they knew by pushing back the Demo a few days before it was intended to be released would piss alot of people off, so they sweetened the deal by including Sandbox2 with the Demo when it comes out. I have to say that this is a very smart move made by Crytek and I have to applaud them for covering their ass in good form.

Various community sites reported yesterday, that the Crysis SP demo has been pushed back for about a month to the 26th of October. The official Crysis website  does not confirm this yet and neither do any official EA forums.

Here's the sound of the announcement, said to be straight from the desk of  Cervat Yerl, CEO of Crytek:

I'm really not overly concerned. As long as they stay true to their release date i'll be quite happy.

In hindsight, I think I should have said it's very disappointing that they pushed back the demo date release. I am assuming the push back is due to things they have found out from the beta release and the resulting feedback that has come from that. On the upside, this delay allows me more time to get a better video card...

Hm, odd. Now that the topic has the same title as the post on the main page, the bridge recognizes the topic... Sorry for merging your topic into this then, 'Taker. I tried it the other way round first, but as you noticed, that didn't work...

LoL!  :D  Not a prob AoP..I have run into similar discombobulations editing sites that run phpbb . I thought that this info was important enuf to get out asap even though I was not able to get it from the horses mouth. I did a bunch of checking before posting and am really hoping I haven't put my foot in it by speaking too soon.

Quite simple calculation. Would you rather have a delayed demo (that will still come out before relase of the game) or a delayed full game? :)

Without a doubt you guys had good reasons for the decision.

Nevertheless - and I'm sure you're aware of it - to some of us, Crysis has been the most anticipated game since the first artwork appeared, so we're really eager to get to play it...

Delayed demo of course ;) to be honest It really doesn't bother me when a game gets delayed besides typically a demo only comes out a week or so before the full version...well that's how it used to be
