*SOLVED* MWLL Desktop Launcher
« on: February 26, 2010, 08:15:26 PM »
I have tried this several times. What happens: The first time after I start my computer I can launch the game from the desktop shortcut.....if I close the game out and try to re-start it from the desktop icon....nothing happens. I am able to launch it from crysis desktop icon and select mod. When I shut my computer off I will get a notice of a program running in "Activemovie Window" and it will ask me if I want to close it.....I will get as many of these notifications as the number of times I try to start MWLL for the desktop shortcut.
Have I done something wrong ....is something corrupt? Any help would be appreciated.

It sounds as if the intro movie is still running thou it shouldn't when you are in the Game Menu has been launched. Also you should be given a warning if you try to launch a second Crysis.exe!

Have you tried launching the game from the MWLL_Launcher.exe found in Crysis/Mods/mwll? This should give you a Menu where you can select either "Launch 32-bit Game" or "Launch 64-bit Game", after executing that an intro movie is displayed, press "Space" to skip the movie and you will be met by the Game Menu where you have to select Multiplayer, and any server with a low ping for optimal game experience.

You can also launch the game via Crysis own shortcut with the added code -mods mwll after the quoted text in the Destination link, e.g. "...\Crysis\Bin32\crysis.exe" -mod mwll

Don't run the standard Crysis and then run the Mod via the built in menu, that will start you in Singleplayer, as well as run its own actionmaps afaik.

If the above does not work, you might want to re-install it?

I have installed the mod 3 times now with the same effect. I just tried launching from within the Crysis folder and I got a screen that just said Cysis has to close....no reason and asks me if I want to report it. Then it goes back to doing the same thing again. If I reboot my computer it works 1 time. After that I have to restart again.

guess I could go for 4 unless someone has a better idea.

OK...I played around with this installation all I am willing to do. Just so no one says "have you tried this" I will do a rundown of my issues. I downloaded the original update using bit-torrent. After I installed it, I ran Crysis and went through that portal to load a MOD. Then I loaded my old actionmaps file. When I ran MWLL it crashed...no explaination...just a window that said Crysis needs to close. I tried to start it again and ....nothing. So I tried starting Crysis and it crashed as well...same message. I uninstalled everything...even Crysis, though I did not uninstall user settings or saved games. Re-installed Crysis and all patches..it works....reinstalled MWLL..it worked once....then the same thing happened again. I went through several variations of uninstall and re-install portions etc...no luck. So I took the drastic route and uninstalled EVERYTHING and deleted ALL folders and files relative to either game. Then I installed Crysis and checked..ok...patch 1 ...checked ok..etc...all worked until I installed MWLL. It will start from the desktop the first time only....after that when I click the desktop icon nothing happens. If I shut down my system I get a window saying "active movie is running and do I want to end the program". I will get this notification for however many times I try to start MWLL. Once my system restarts I can get on MWLL ONE time......then it goes back to nothing when the icon is clicked. Needless to say I am completely frustrated after SEVERAL HOURS most of yesterday and this morning(after redownloading from a mirror site all night). I will be playing poker until there is a new release of MWLL.

A shameless BUMP to keep Rad's problem at the forefront and to ask;

Is there anyway to disable the movie altogether to see if that will allow his game to cycle to the next and not hang. I recall in Crysis we could delete or exclude in some way the movie file?

OK....I lied....I really want to get this to work..LOL. I again uninstalled EVERYTHING and began the installation over again, checking after each step that the game was working. I downloaded the 0.2.0 game again for the 3rd time from a different server. Then I re-installed the 0.1.0 version, checked it....patched it....checked it. It worked just like originally. I deleted it and again installed 0.2.0. I get the same issue....it starts one time, when I shut it down and reclick the desktop launcher nothing happens. If I go to task manager it says MWLLLauncher.exe is running....but nothing is happening. If I shut down my computer I get the "activemovie is running do you want to end now". If I shut MWLLLauncher.exe off in task manager I don't get the activemovie note, but if I click the launcher 15 times and open task manager I see 15 episodes of MWLLLauncher.exe running. I can shut down my computer and MWLL will work that 1 time. I am hoping someone will be able to figure out what the issue is from what I have posted.

Stop using the launcher. Make a MWLL shortcut.

You can also launch the game via Crysis own shortcut with the added code -mods mwll after the quoted text in the Destination link, e.g. "...\Crysis\Bin32\crysis.exe" -mod mwll

What happens now?

Played MWLL for Guillermo del Toro.

I have that and no issues so far.

Try disabling the videos bg.sfd and Trailer_Wandering_Samurai_Studios.sfd, e.g. rename the file extension to .sf_

I was thinking the problem may be with the k-lite codec pack or something similar. Codec packs have given me some grief in the past. Any chance you have anything like this installed Rad?

Will this throw a flag to the anti-cheat? Reason I ask is, I messed up and edited the example actionmaps and received the changed files notification.

I actually installed the K-Lite codecs, no issue in Crysis/Mods so far. Also make sure your DirectX is up to date, but nothing above written from you indicates that they are not.

Disabling the videos wont be flagged. I tested that prior to writing the above post :D

Yes...I have media player, I went on-line and found how to disable activemovie window..no effect. I have the latest version of DirectX. I disabled both movie files......no effect.
I'm wondering if there is some file that is not closing out when I close the game after that one time it runs? So when I try to start MWLL again it can't start because file idon'tknow.why is still running. I still can't figure out why I get MWLLlaunch.exe on my task manager like 10 times if I try to launch that many......it should not even start should it?
Thanks for the suggestions....keep em coming!

Did you disable your virus protection and tried it?
