In a full or close to full server LT's don't enrage me as much, probably because there are more targets for it.
BUt i was playing a 5v5 server or something near that, it was not too hard to take it out, but you get owned alot on a less populated server, i just wish ppl didn't use it constantly because just attacking a long tom over and over is boring.

And when your enemy's teammates are actually in MEchs and your doing reasonable well against them only to get taken out by Mr. PointandCLick, it's not even worth forming a strategy. I ramble, and have added nothing to this discussion. Well you all have said it already.

Here's something, did aeros just die off completely with the new patch?  Cause i don't see anyone using them anymore.  It's sad cause i don't think a longtom could even hit one, but now it only takes a like ten seconds of sustained fire from an AC Partisan.
No matter how much they(aeros) pissed me off, it would be great to have that element revitalized.
Maybe the damge(from AC)to aeros needs to find a middle ground?

I suck!! But WE are AWESOME.  We started a unit.  What's that?!  YOU WANNA TOUCH MY UNIT?!! :P ^^12thVR Recruitment Page(clickthepic) ;)

they haven't gone away, they control differently and people are still getting used to them.  Sullas right now are twice as fast as they used to be which throws aim off considerably.  Give it time and you'll see the more.

I love the new aeros, although I'm noticing that heat gain is quickly with the afterburners.  The turn rate is AMAZING and great for hit and run tactics :)

Yeah, new aeros feels good. Especially Shiva. And believe me, there's no better anti-Long Tom, than Siva prime. 2 Gauss kills them in a blink of an eye!

So true DC :D  Passive radar, boat configs, poptarting were all part of MW4 and no one really complained ;)

Yeh I quit playing MW4 online a lot sooner than most people, because I would get on and RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE at the constant rain of LRMs, CGauss, and ERPPCs. Heaven help me when the mechbay is added to MWLL.

well there a lot of people still playing MW4 10yrs on so its doing something right, aswell as being the most successful mech game of all time

I cant wait for the mech lab, customisation is what makes mechwarrior games stand out from the pack :D

I'm with him ^ ... boating is one thing ... but like anything else isn't the be all end all of any tactic or Mech game ...

Variety is the spice of life and if this version wants to survive half as long as the old MechWarrior game then it needs to offer at least the same functionality ... not just pretty graphics.

Some people just don't change ...

Instant whiners .. just add Long Tom ...

It is just another weapon that has to be considered in an overall strategy to win the day ... sit and shoot missiles from long range or have to move because there is a Tom inbound ... it isn't rocket science ...

I have no idea of what you're talking about, but I think what you're trying to say is "stop bitching about LT's being OP".

But no one is bitching here, this is the opposite of bitching, this is adapting and overcoming.

Indeed.
I usually use faster medium mechs for the purpose of hit and run tactics, I have no qualms with the actual Longtom Unit, just the fact that it is difficult to get to one situated near an enemy base because of heavy reinforcement.

The goal of this thread is to come up with team strategies to:
A) AVOID heavy reinforcements near the Longtoms
B) Get in and kill Longtoms while minimizing damage yourself and your teammates.

I've found my most efficient tactic to deal with the LT. It features staying back and drawing the LT out, so I can fight it on neutral ground. This is for when I'm in a heavy or another slow mech.

That is because if you maintain radar discipline, keep your distance from it and keep moving, you're unlikely to get hit. And if you do take a shot, you have a good chance to make it back for repairs anyway.

And actively rushing it is very dangerous, the LT very often kills me just when I'm almost on top of it, it's ridiculous. And if that's not the case, I have to deal with support units that just happen to be there, if the LT is close to the enemy base. Which it likely is.

By drawing it out, I don't have to factor in as many support units and I even have more better attack paths to chose from. It's not perfect, but it's the best I've got.
