Now that people know the code, don't you think they will simply add it back in into the actionmaps xml, or is that one of the files your cheat-protection covers?

It's not a matter of actionmaps last I checked, so that wouldn't work if someone tried doing it.

Ah, good to know.
'any kind of discussion of randomness ALWAYS WILL EQUATE to being able to critically hit a mech's reactor by firing a micro beam laser while facing 80 degrees to the side, shooting the ground, which would cause a random explosion which would randomly crit his entire team's reactors which would randomly cause the server itself to explode which would randomly generate a strange quark which would randomly hit the earth and randomly randomness randomfapp the shit fapp random!'

It can definitely be useful in aeros. One of the most frustrating things about them is not being able to look round to see where the incoming missiles are coming from. Having a first person free look (tied to the hat on a joystick, or some keyboard equivalent) would be really useful for any mech, vehicle and particularly aero/vtol.

3rd person should not be allowed, as the devs agree as it is unrealistic (good point about the pretty screenshots though!). I am trying not to use it with this release as I don't want to rely on it and know it isn't going to last long.

Correction: most of the tanks I tried did not have a 3rd person view, only the APC.

I really like the free aim on the VTOL though. Makes VTOL more like "futuristic hovering gunship" and less like "gunz duck taped to a civvie helicopter".

I'll have to check out this free aim thing on the VTOL.  Sounds like something similar to a FLIR tracking turret, minus the thermal imaging.

In all honesty, VTOL's need a major upgrade in their intimidation factor, whether by small radar signatures, free aim turret, etc.  Right now flying a VTOL still has the same feeling as being a fly in a room of people all trying to swat it.

Also, since the Hawkmoth in BT is an actual helo, why is there no rotor?

Because it uses a vertically facing jet engine.

Just my 2 cents:

Living Legends is a GODDAMN SHOOTER (sorry devs but I'm afraid that's true and a couple of people I'm playing with agree with me), so 3rd person view should be an option at the very least. If the server owner doesn't want it on his server - fine. But if someone wants to have some arcadeish fun - that's his choice. I don't see any reason to not give us any choice, considering it's a community mod and the devs can and should listen to the community. Even when the smallest bit of the community is unhappy with some changes you made, you should reconsider your decisions.

I'm glad that the external camera in 020 was a mistake that's not staying but a freelook key might be a nice idea, just to glance out of the side of your cockpit for a bit more situational awareness or to do some fine aiming work in a vtol.

Having gone to the trouble of having fully in-world 3d cockpits, it seems a shame not to be able to look out of them in any other direction :)

Disagree.

If the server owner doesn't want it on his server - fine. But if someone wants to have some arcadeish fun - that's his choice.
May I suggest: MechAssault, MechAssault 2, Chrome Hounds, Armoured Core, Murakumo, Robotech: Battlecry, Phantom Crash, GunGriffon series, Battle Engine Aquila, and even MechWarrior IV.

Simply because a mod is being independently developed for a community does not necessarily mean that the full spectrum of that communitys' opinion will be incorporated into the final product.  We see a lot of good and bad ideas voiced, some of which might even be considered conflicting.  In my time with the team and this community, I have come to realise that we will never be able to please ALL participants because opinions vary so widely AND the scope of desired features is far beyond what can ever achieve given our available resources.  I would hope that you will understand that we are trying to deliver our vision of a combined arms BT multiplayer experience, and then set your expectations accordingly.

You might not know battletech, or even care about battletech but this MMSIM is based on battletech. 3rd person view would or could be incorporated if you used a parascope or a camera on a 2x4 nailed onto the armor. Otherwise its not possible. Read up on battletech and i hope you will find that the immersion is a lot more fun than fps arcade.

@Masakari

If that was meant to be sarcasm, please, keep it to yourself.

Still none of your points convince me at all. Having such an option would NOT make the mod any worse. Instead it could even make your community base a bit bigger, but from what I see you want to keep it under "sim", where it obviously does not belong. I know it may sound harsh, but really - I do appreciate all your work on this mod, but claiming it's a sim with Unreal-like BA combat and weird behaving vehicles and aerotech isn't really a sim. I do realize most of you will disagree, but this is how it looks like currently. Having an option, I say it again, AN OPTION, would not destroy in any way the way the mod is played. Most of the servers would have 1st person turned on so it wouldn't be a big issue if a couple of people would be playing on a totally different server with external views turned on.

And yes, I do know the battletech universe, and no, 3rd person has nothing to do with wrecking immersion or anything. Especially, as mentioned before, it could be an option. Someone wants to be "super awesome elite" and play on full reality servers (if it can be said about battletech), it's fine. Someone wants to watch your really cool looking mechs and in the meantime kill some enemies - it's also fine. Everyone would play on different servers and no harm would be done to either sides.

Developers will never please eveybody and they shouldn't try...attempting to strike such balances usually ends up with everyone unhappy.

The PC gamer community has always leaned towards simmy-ness whereas the console community, arcadiness. Putting arcadiness into a game that started out, and developed its fanbase, as a sci-fi sim 15+ years ago, and doing it on the PC, will not be successful with the majority of the community.

Course if anyone REALLY wants 3rd person camera, they could run a second copy of crysis on a separate machine and spectate themselves. I played around with doing just that for a little while, works great if you want to make a youtube ego-video,  so-so for actual fighting (you still need to look at your main screen to line up shots), and very well for situational aweness.
