Devs,

Would it be possible to move either the chat box or the target damage indicator? As it is now, the lower portion of the damage indicator is obscured when anyone is talking. This makes it difficult/impossible to read what your target is.

I get it as well. 1600x1200.

I play at 1680x1050 and haven't noticed any problems like the OP reported.

However, the ability to toggle a persistent chatbox would be very welcome...I can't even remember who I'm donating my c-bills to half the time!

Maybe when you press U or Y, the persistant chatbox will toggle on, and when you aren't typing it will fade away.

Alternately, all lines of chat could be stored in the console for reference.  Currently I can only see messages I sent saved in console, but not those typed by anyone else.

I have had the need to see chat history before also... so I second this request. I initially looked in the console hoping it would be there too, so that would be a sensible place for it.

I don't recall having in obfuscation issues with the text but I've wanted to peruse a chatlog for information many many times.

This happens to me as well I keep the res down low (1280x1040) I usually ignore it since I refre to my radar more than anything but when I'm using LT's it does get rather hard to read. I'll take an SS when I get a chance.

yes, many great gems have gone unscathed into the realm of obscurity that is lost chat.

Something not entirely unrelated to this would be that only the things oneself does type and write are actually occurring again when opening the console but when in battle one might not get everything that was written by others so it'd be helpful if those msgs would also pop up when opening the console.

I think a dedicated chat box would be the best.  A lot of background stuff gets written into the console, and if chat history was stored there it would likely be hard to find.  I really liked the new chat box for Counter-Strike: Source, as it was normal chat text when receiving, but opened up a box with a scroll whenever you wanted to type something.

Happens to me sometimes at 1920x1080 and 1280x720
As for msg in console, aren't they already shows up in it? I remember seeing them there.
And yes, we could use dedicated chatbox with message history for 3-4 messages, visible only when "say" or "teamsay" message typing is active.
