I get it as well. 1600x1200.
Happens to me sometimes at 1920x1080 and 1280x720
As for msg in console, aren't they already shows up in it? I remember seeing them there.
And yes, we could use dedicated chatbox with message history for 3-4 messages, visible only when "say" or "teamsay" message typing is active.
Only your messages show in the console.
I've also never encountered the chat problem at 1680x1050 resolution - I'll ask around with some of my friends that play and see if they have the issue.
And finally, an in-game chatbox either being static or toggle-able would be really REALLY nice. It's impossible to count how many times someone has typed something and been ignored simply because everyone else is getting wailed on by other Mechs.
