Dx10
« on: March 04, 2010, 04:55:26 PM »
Will DX10 ever be properly supported in MWLL? I don't mean soon, just eventually? There isn't even any DX10 servers running :(

I'm not sure what you meant by properly supported, but with our mod there is no reason to run a DX10 server. We have physics working in MP on DX9, and with the CCC 1.31 pack you will get better looking graphics with better performance on DX9. Regardless you can run DX9, and if someone *wanted* to run a DX10 server they could. Just no point really.

And ToD also works in DX9.

You can always connect to DX9 servers with a DX10 client. No reason to not use the DX10 mode other than drop in FPS without getting too much more quality out of it (compared to CCC1.31). On the other hand DX10 Servers really are only for DX10 clients. So why limiting our own game by forcing people to use DX10 on their servers? Hence stuff got ported over ;)

Basically, the only thing that running a DX10 server gets you is locking out all players who are running DX9 from joining.  Artificial limitation of your possible playerbase.

DX9 mode runs considerably faster and looks exactly the same actually.  The only benefit you gain from running the game in DX10 is object-based motion blurring. But I don't find this worth it cause the normal motion blur works just fine and DX10 runs considerably worse than DX9.

I dont help much to have a DX10 GC when your OS dont support anything higher then DX9
You need to have Vista or Win 7 to have DX10 support, for those of us, myself included, who run with XP we have no DX 10 support.
I'm currently using a Nvidia Geeforce GTS 250 card, it has plenty DX 10 support, but as I'm using XP I cannot go higher then DX9.
Although I am looking into getting me Win 7 eventually I'm in no hurry to do so, and at the current point in time I simply cannot afford the expense of a new OS.

Theres a way to get DX10 working in XP, but I wasn't game to try it as I didn't have a DX10 gfx card at the time, and now I just don't care enough to try, after seeing how gorgeous CCC makes the game. If you haven't tried the CCC pack yet, please do! Yes this is a shameless plug for CCC, it is THAT good. Don't believe me? Ask other people who've used it, beyond those who've already plugged for it in this thread already. If you don't like it, you can just uninstall it.

Cuban-Ultima-Doom-Sword's [CCC] 1.31 is the 3rd party crysis optimizer that gives you nearly all of the dx10 features on dx9 cards. I even found using the program on DirectX 10 sped things up quite a bit.
