A platform directly above the mech so that you can drop straight down is a nice idea, mechs won't get stuck on them either.

i would like the next update to include a geriatric nurse that picks me up and puts me gently into my mechseat while rubbing my tummy with wet warm towels so i can switch to piloting mechs. cuz right now i have to wait 2 seconds till my jumpjets refill.

seriously tho. until some update would remove jumpjets from pilots or removes the automatic refill of those a ramp would be unnecessary. on the contrary i even liked the idea of having to jump up to your cockpit as soon as i learned of it. it actually requires you to learn something to be able to steer a walking doombringer^^ and its more fun than being able to just bump into your vehicle pressing the enter key repeatedly. to use and to watch others use it^^

I have no problems getting into a mech, but I think having some sort of retractable ramp or lift in mech bays would be good for the atmosphere.

How about this :

Make a set of stairs that lead down the current catwalk to two lower levels.  Each of these levels has a catwalk running alongside the vehicle, like the current catwalk, where someone can run off into the mech.  Not only that, but if they miss, they can run up the stairs and try again if they haven't got the hang of the jump jets.

Should fix most problems with getting inside, but it would take a bit more time to use.
Thanks for the view.

Well it is sort of a litmus test.  If you are having that much trouble guiding a BA to enter a mech then the reflex quotient this game requires for success is likely beyond your skill.

Just because you are so 1337 that you can get into your mech on the first try every time dont mean that everyone is that.
As for my reflexes, they are more than adequate for this game, but not everyone has those superhuman reflexes you aparently have.
Just because you dont like someones idea dont mean you go around insulting them for it.
But I'll just keep my ideas to myself in the future, seems like the best suggestion around here.

The ramp dont have to extend far, and the way things are now I have many times walked into the catwalk along the wall without getting stuck in any way.
It dont have to be a ramp, someone has come up with other suggestions and that was the whole point of me starting this post, to discuss posibilites and ways to make entering the mech from the bay more smooth.
I apparently pass through it somehow.

From the replies I have seen here I have noticed that it can be an annoyance at times, and I'm not the only one here with the problem.
And even though I manage to land on my mech I sometimes find myself falling off again before I can enter it.
Even though I'm close enough to hit the "enter vehicle" button I still see myself, for various reasons not enter, but instead just land on the floor.
I dont remember which mech it was I had at the time, but after some annoying JJ acrobatics, I finally managed to land on my mech
But the landing was apparently a bad one, as I landed between the "arm" and the "Body", something that for some odd reason actually killed me. This in turn is actually counted as suicide.

Let me rephrase it so you don't take it so personally, because I didn't intend it as an insult but as an observation.

Well it is sort of a litmus test.  If a player is having that much trouble guiding a BA to enter a mech then the reflex quotient this game requires will probably amount to difficulty deeper into the game.  I still miss the window for entering mechs but find it to be a very slight annoyance at worst.  Unless the ramp people propose goes right up to the enter window, regardless of mech size and height, I find that it would be even more annoying to have to tap tap tap my way to the edge of a ramp and drop down on the mech.  How would you conceive of a ramp that is a one size fits all mechs?

Why are you even trying to enter from the catwalk?
Walk under mech -> look up -> tap spacebar for half a second -> Hit the "use" key -> be happy and inside your cockpit  8)

Does not feel very canon and doesn't look as cool, but hey... we are BAs controlling Mechs  ;D
