It seems that there is a consensus (more or less).
Makes sense. If we can't use the POV for POV (damn Crysis here), then targeting is the next best thing.

Un-agree! I just want support for POV controls, not predefined controls. There should be an option to set up your own style of control.

You can set your control already the way you want. At least all controls that are in game. Mapping them is no problem at all.

But if you want POV: It's techichally (at the moment) impossible. Sure, i would love to be able to change view inside the cockpit, especially in a aero cockpit. I could train to hit a BA with a fire bomb that way ;) .
But since you can fire your weapons at the point you are looking, and that seems to be a limitation of Crysis, i guess that is not going to happen. Unless the dev somehow pull a magic white rabbit out of their collective hat. Meaning finding a way to code the weapons to be locked while the point of view is not directly forward.

Until then i will be happy if they chose a solution that at least makes use of the POV switch (for people that cant use basic joystick driver software, third party software, or change two simple files).

For me it's a non issue anyways. I mapped my joystick to use POV the way i want it.

I have done this a lot in previous mech games

Up: Target Object under reticule
Back: Nearest enemy
Left: Look left
Right: Look right

As well as

Up: Target Object under reticule
Back:  Toggle Navpoint
Left: Nearest Enemy
Right: Next Enemy

Option to choose would be best I suppose

If someone is going to shoot me in the back, I don't want to see  ::)
I don't care if you shoot me full of holes...just don't taze me bro!

And what made you think I already didn't know that? ;)

Thanks guys.  I will take the feedback that you have provided back to the Dev team.

Currently the joystick POV (at least the ones reported as POVs in DirectX) support 8-way directionality.  I think there is sufficient desire to be able to map them in the actionmaps rather than joystick profiling software.

I know for those using the X-52/x-52 pro that the upper POV/D-Pad responds as button presses, I'm hopefully going to be able to request that the POV hat behaves the same way.

As for free-look using the POV hat I would love it too but don't know enough about the programming side of the engine to tell you if it's actually possible.  As far as I know it's an engine limitation but who knows what the programmers can make possible.

I currently dont have the POV hat on my stick mapped to anything.
I'm not quite sure if I can use the hat on my stick as a D-pad and I can map buttons to it, or if it works as a POV hat and cannot be used to assign buttons to.
I would have to look into it, but if I can assign buttons to it, I would use it for targeting mainly and osme other less critical funtions like toggling group/chain fire and active/passive radar.
